Palin resignation splits GOP
The Politico ^ | July 4, 2009 | Jonathan Martin

Sarah Palin’s jaw-dropping announcement that she is quitting her job as Alaska governor before finishing even her first term has divided Republican ranks and the wider political community in a very familiar fashion.

Many establishment GOP operatives and political commentators of various stripes were withering, both about the decision and the way she announced it—in a jittery, hyperkinetic news conference that rambled between self-congratulation and bitter accusations at the foes she says are eager to destroy her.

The performance, by these lights, adds credence to the claims of some associates that Palin—burned by the intense scrutiny on her and the crossfire that swirls around her—is so fed up that she's ready to get out of elective politics. Even if it's only the small stage of Alaska politics she hopes to escape, skeptics say Friday’s events also diminished and perhaps even demolished what was left of her viability as a 2012 presidential candiate.

But her defenders believed an unorthodox move, even if risky, has a clear logic and may only further increase her standing with conservatives who don’t care what establishment figures in or out of the GOP think. Leaving the governor’s office at the end of this month leaves her free to travel the country, command large speaking fees, and begin the process of rallying her devotees without pesky home-state opponents criticizing every move.

These varied reactions were an echo of the debates that have followed Palin every step since her nomination as John McCain’s running mate ten months ago—a surprise that turned out to be just the first of many surprises served up by one of the most colorful and polarizing American political figures in a generation.

” ‘Jittery”...”hyperkinetic”...”bitter accusations’...???

I must have been watching a different press conference.”

I saw her announcement, and she wasn’t jittery or bitter, but a bit squirrely. Shades of Ross Perot.

The reason the GOP is split has nothing to do with Sarah Palin really, she is just the one that came to the national stage with the message we have all been waiting for. Those within the GOP that hate her, hate her for her message, a message that has lifted conservatives to the forefront. The GOP message of Dem-lite isn’t cutting it anymore, they are seeing their base evaporate, they have made too many deals with the devil to turn back and they are stuck in their own mess. Sarah, who owed nothing to anybody, stood up and said what we wanted and needed to hear.

There is not one so-called Republican out there that can get a fraction of the people to listen to them like Sarah can. I wish she would team up with Duncan Hunter and the few other true conservatives out there and start the revolution to take this country back! The two of them can do more good without the restraints of being in office.

You know, this wasn’t about being attacked as a Governor. It went way past that! It was cruel beyond words what they did not to her but her CHILDREN! Imagine if Jay Leno had made jokes about the Obama girls and R.Kelly? Remember him, the R&B singer who liked little girls? Would that be funny? Would the press laugh? They skewered her husband, yet nobody will touch Michelle. And decent comedian could do an entire show on her wardrobe alone, but that would never happen. And to top it off the liberal press said nasty things about her baby! What they did to her was NOT politics as usual!

This was needed. Draw the line. The “moderates” still think they can win even after the huge loss of the election and our country. So draw the line ... then watch the money. The money will flow to the conservative side of the line. And I'm suggesting anybody contributing to the RNC rethink that immediately ... you are contributing to McCain and Graham and the rest of the mods who are now "running" the party. Make sure your money goes to a CONSERVATIVE GROUP or CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE. The MONEY flow will decide the next election, make sure yours is flowing to the RIGHT side of the line Sarah Palin has drawn for us.

Let's have another speech about honor, duty and commitment!

Did it ever occur to you that maybe, just maybe she did this out of honor, duty and commitment to her FAMILY???? What the press and her detractors have done to her children is indefensible. I have never in my lifetime saw such viciousness regarding children. Not 20, 25, 30 yr.olds, but CHILDREN!!! Anyone who contributed to that has no shame or conscience. I believe if they went after her and her alone she could have taken the punches, but to have to defend herself constantly and THEN have to defend her children is another thing.

She has way more class than me. I would have asked to be on David Letterman and then I would have beat him silly with that microphone he keeps on his desk.

The GOP cast aside conservatism and has been imploding since 2006. Now, it’s Palin’s fault. Yeah, right. LOL!

if she can somehow use her popularity to elect Republicans help them pick up seats or control of the House people will owe her “big time”. I wished she’d go to Arizona and campaign against McCrap in his primary.

Sarah's gone rogue...and I love it!

Now she can directly confront "Americans" who hate America and avoid the liberal/commies who have been filing the bogus ethic charges.

Go Sarah...we luv ya!

I do wonder if she was in contact with Rush/Levin during their secret project meeting to get their comments. If so, a brilliant move by Sarah.

Well I don’t know what’s going on.. but if you won’t vote Palin.... then who are you voting for? Romney? Who’s left?

The right answer is to say he voted for Sarah but we haven’t heard that yet so one must assume that McCain was his choice.

We have a couple of years before we actively seek a candidate. Sarah took the world by storm. There are others. In the interim, let our adversaries think we are still focused on the candidates the Nation has already rejected.

If you missed the Mark Levin show from yesterday, he had a terrific show on why Palin is stepping down. Ignore ALL what the media is telling you. She is not cut & running. She is cutting dead weight. She is removing a mill stone from her neck. She is freeing her self up for a serious run for the Whitehouse. Mark Levin made some great observations, and playing cuts of Palin herself, I am pretty certain Levin is right.

Mark Levin archive July 3rd. Worth listening to.

To the Romney backers:

Mitt Romney is not electable. For what it’s worth, take my word for it. When this man talks, he’s easy to attack. When this man talks, he’s too easy not to believe & respect. When this man ran for President he was ganged up on by the rest of the Republican field to the bitter end. Mitt Romney, a man who sounds like he selling lemons at a new car dealership.

“The wife just told me that she heard on the news earlier today that the Palin’s are talking about moving to the lower 48. Anyone else hear or read about that?”

Wouldn’t it be something if she moved to Arizona and took McCain out of the senate! I’d pay to watch that.

At this point we are all speculating. It is a fact the law suits, etc. were damaging her state and unlike Sanford (who should resign!), she cares more about her state than some foreign squeeze.

Sarah may not come out of this, we have much to learn about her issue positions, but I’ll love Sarah forever if for no other reason than knocking JACKO out of the news for a few minutes. CBS has been wall to wall Jacko worship since his demise.
