Palin resignation splits GOP
The Politico ^ | July 4, 2009 | Jonathan Martin

Sarah Palin’s jaw-dropping announcement that she is quitting her job as Alaska governor before finishing even her first term has divided Republican ranks and the wider political community in a very familiar fashion.

Many establishment GOP operatives and political commentators of various stripes were withering, both about the decision and the way she announced it—in a jittery, hyperkinetic news conference that rambled between self-congratulation and bitter accusations at the foes she says are eager to destroy her.

The performance, by these lights, adds credence to the claims of some associates that Palin—burned by the intense scrutiny on her and the crossfire that swirls around her—is so fed up that she's ready to get out of elective politics. Even if it's only the small stage of Alaska politics she hopes to escape, skeptics say Friday’s events also diminished and perhaps even demolished what was left of her viability as a 2012 presidential candiate.

But her defenders believed an unorthodox move, even if risky, has a clear logic and may only further increase her standing with conservatives who don’t care what establishment figures in or out of the GOP think. Leaving the governor’s office at the end of this month leaves her free to travel the country, command large speaking fees, and begin the process of rallying her devotees without pesky home-state opponents criticizing every move.

These varied reactions were an echo of the debates that have followed Palin every step since her nomination as John McCain’s running mate ten months ago—a surprise that turned out to be just the first of many surprises served up by one of the most colorful and polarizing American political figures in a generation.

Well, someone’s got to do it. So far the job IS open.

I would appreciate it.

Thanks CajunGirl. I appreciate it. I agree with you. I’m just calling it like I see it. I’m not happy having to address it this way, to be honest.

I like Sarah. I like the Palins. They are the U.S. family. I’m rooting for them. I don’t get any pleasure out of this.

As for knocking JACKO out of the news, isn’t that the truth.

Gag me.

I’ll admit it, I didn’t want to see her go like this either. But part of me understands why she did it. I mean, running for reelection would deny many candidates around the country of the chance of having her campaigning with them. That had been in the back of my mind for a while.

And yes, at first I thought her actions were foolish. However, I have come to realize that all the innuendos and false allegations were having a toll on her family. I also know that if I had a child with special needs, and some liberal nitwit started insulting him or her, I would be sent to jail for assault (not to mention losing my job).

I can only imagine the anguish her family has been under, and especially Todd. I’m sure he’s been frustrated by the inability to defend his family.

In terms of your family/work/neighbors, keep fighting the good fight. If you can convince at least one of them, then you have denied the rats another vote. And keep defending Sarah. Remind them of the slander their side has been leveling on Trig, and ask them what they would do. Remind them how 0 gets when he hears criticism from Fox News. He starts crying.

Sarah is simply showing that she is one of us. That’s all I care about. Happy 4th of July!

GEEZ, do they have a form somewhere for stories in the media that starts with the title “_________ spilts GOP”? I’m starting to wonder if they really do and just fill in the _______ with whatever the new angle is?

I hear ya. As I’ve said many times, and to her....we need to know some of her policy positions, and if she does return nationally to raise funds for ‘conservatives’, it better not be GOP insider/traitors like McCain, et al or she’s just another political hack.

It may be time for a third party end run.
If I were Palin I would be as disgusted
with the GOP as are the rest of us.

This could be the biggest “rope a dope”
the left has ever seen.

I’m just sayin’ while I’m prayin’...

Different times, but the same principles. Reagan had more sense than to do what Sarah just did.

My assessment is that the GOP is finished, and Sarah knows it.

YMMV.

After reading all these threads about Sarah Palin's decision to resign as Governor of Alaska I'm now quite sick and ashamed of many of my fellow FReepers and am almost ashamed to be one myself.

I used to think left had a monopoly on fussy narcissistic bastards, who think the world revolves around kissing their rear ends and stroking their inflated egos. Sadly I'm wrong and I now realize that there are many of these same kind of worthless ingrates on the right who are posting on FR.

I, like many here, was surprised when I heard the news of Sarah resigning. After reading and hearing her statement I'm quite comfortable she made the decision she thought was best for her future and the future of her family. I believe Sarah is a good, honest, and courageous person who has had great success as mayor and governor and I have no doubt she will have continued success with whatever endeavor she pursues. I know Sarah Palin isn't perfect, but then no other person or FReeper can claim perfection either, and I don't look to her as my savior because Jesus Christ is the only one who can fill that position. Despite Sarah's flaws or what ever disagreements I may have with her, I have nothing but the highest respect and admiration for her and if she does run for President I will vote for her in the primary, and if she gets the nomination I'll proudly vote for her over commie in chief Hussein. Now if she doesn't get the GOP nomination, I'll vote for who ever does get it because Obama has to go and that's the most important thing right now. I'll still be a Sarah Palin fan though, and no matter what trials and tribulations she goes through this is one FReeper and conservative that will never turn on her, because the world is filled with too many fair weather friends, which unfortunately describes some FReepers as of late. It's easy and gutless to kick a person and abandon them when they're down, but a real friend will always be there in both the good and the bad times. I don't know about you but I bet Sarah could use some more friends right now.

As for Sarah's critics, I have nothing but contempt for you and your worthless opinions. Any so called conservative who makes derogatory, libtard like comments about Sarah and says stupid crap like Palin is a quitter, is stupid, doesn't talk good enough, isn't up to the job, is week, is evil, is trailer trash, is a whore, is a bad mother, is a traitor, is a rino, is too conservative, isn't conservative enough, etc etc should stick their heads in the toilet, flush several times, and then look in the mirror and see what insufferable jackasses they are. all of you who trash Palin have done nothing to advance conservatism and the conservative movement except post snarky comments about those you don't like on the Internet, which doesn't advance anything but your dumb egos. Sararh Palin has worked her butt off and has taken alot of bullcrap as a mayor, as a governor, and as a mother to promote christian values and a conservative agenda for her family, town, and state. This is much more than I can say for her FReeper critics who think that just because they've been a FR keyboard jockey for ten or more years, they're the greatest political experts and the most courageous people on the face of God's green Earth. If any of you Palin Critics can fill Palin's shoes better than she can then I dare you to run for governor of your state. And when the media and the left viciously attack your spouse and kids, let's see how long you endure. I bet if you Palin bashers spent just one day in her shoes you would be crying like little girls and hiding under your beds like the cowards you truly are.

If any of you Palin bashers are offended by my post I don't give a rat's rear end because I'm tired of being nice and polite to those who find great joy in stabbing our own, like Sarah Palin, in the back just because they don't get their way. From now on if I read a Palin thread and I see a FReeper making derogatory statements about Sarah Palin I will treat that so called FReeper the same way they treat her, and if I get kicked off of Free Republic because of it I won't shed one tear because it's embarrassing to be around a bunch of sourpusses who are more than happy to join the left and use their talking points to trash a good and decent person like Sarah Palin and her wonderful family.

Obama is the enemy, not Palin. Her willing critics on the right need to grow up and grow a pair because they're the ones who are acting like the quitters and the cowards.

Splits Conservatives and Rhinos maybe

Sarah is a populist, and the RNC/GOP Establishment disdains populist issues.

If you wish or you can stop worrying and let this play out. Worry is the product of lack of faith and or vision. At the very least, a worry wort has no strategy.

No more politics as usual...remember that one?

Hold on to your seat, the ride is getting tricky. It would be a lot more fun if put your hands in the air and stoped clenching your fists. :)

I realize you see it different. That’s okay. You take care.
