Wrong-turn Obama: Honduras is an emblematic case
The Washington Times ^ | July 5, 2009 | Oliver North

Posted on 07/05/2009 3:22:53 AM PDT by Scanian

It took the Obama administration less than eight hours to side with Cuba's Fidel Castro, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez and Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega over the ouster of Manuel Zelaya in Honduras.

As we have come to expect, Mr. Obama got it wrong again, but this time, nobody noticed. The U.S. news media, preoccupied with the sudden demise of Michael Jackson, ignored the event in Central America.

For those who care about things more important than the passing of a "pop music legend," here's the rest of the story:

Manuel Zelaya, a wealthy rancher and agribusiness executive but self-described "poor farmer," won a four-year term as Honduran president in November 2005 with 49.8 percent of the vote. Article 374 of the Honduran Constitution bars the nation's chief executive from serving consecutive terms. Apparently, one term wasn't enough for Mr. Zelaya, a protege of Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez and Nicaragua's phobic anti-American leader, Daniel Ortega.

Late last year, as the Honduran economy tanked and unemployment grew to nearly 28 percent, Mr. Zelaya forced Elvin Santos, the country's elected vice president, to resign and began holding conversations with Mr. Chavez and Mr. Ortega on how to hold onto power. In lengthy Chavez-like populist speeches, he denounced the United States

This was more shocking than the Iran deal if you ask me. Our hemisphere, the usual thugs and O is on the wrong side, certainly not our side.

Yes, it is amazing! Everything I have read about the problems in Honduras reflects that this guy is a tin horn dictator wannabe and he got the boot by the institutions designed to maintain a democracy.

Team O is way off base, but, I doubt they will back down. The One does not make mistakes.

Meanwhile, in Iran all is quite which I am sure to make Team O happy as here also they stood with the dictators.

It is a shame that we do not have a “fair and open” press to hold him accountable for his actions.

Meanwhile, have you heard, “The King of Pop is dead”?

The O-team understands just fine what is happening. Obama is building his street cred with fellow Marxists and trying to assure the return of a would be dictator to Honduras. He may also be studying the techniques used by Zelaya for future application to the US.

The global media has worked wonders for the small-time dictators. By watching a little CNN, it's easy for a power-grabber to watch what has worked with other countries in manipulating 0's ego and his "I am SOOO different than the guy I blame for everything, please don't hate me" mentality.

On top of that, it wouldn't do for 0 to support the rule of law in a little Central American country, while it gets so trounced here.

It isnt that the press doesn’t notice what is happening. They are deliberately covering for their boy.

They discovered him, they got,him elected, now they dont want criticism for picking him so they cover for him.

It’s the greatest cover-up of a completely incompetent administration in the history of the United States.

His model is actually Iranian in the sense that the best way to make sure you win any election is to ensure that no potential rival ever makes it onto the ballot. Here I mean “rival” in the sense of moving the government away from domination by the mullahs.

In Iran they do it with their theocratic overseers who simply disqualify for “unsuitability” any person who is not fanatically Muslim enough.

In Venezuela, Chavez has adopted a similar technique based on strong-arm muscle, legal intimidation and populist payoffs. It worked. The other regional dictators have taken note. Honduras resisted and seems to be holding out. Only time will tell if they succeed, but sadly America under Obama has become the worst enemy of liberty in the Western hemisphere.

It really has gotten that bad. Obama and the Acorn crew, along with his soon to be established “civilian national security force” are going to be very active in the coming months making sure that any threats to “The One’s” agenda and future power are savagely suppressed. The media guard dogs won’t bark while this is happening because they are all in bed with him anyhow.

I despised Clinton, but I deeply fear Obama. Clinton, for all his flaws, was basically a clown and a party animal. Obama is the real thing. This guy intends to take down the Republic.

Granted Odumbo runs the most anti-American administration and the press is covering for him, but it’s for a different reason than you assume. You can’t understand today’s headlines until you understand the biggest cover-up in US History. If you’re a typical American, you won’t believe nor comprehend even this simple proof of the BIG LIE.

Years of indoctrination have made Obama a visceral Leftist; he accepts all the premises of the anti-American Left. He ignores Iran’s waging an undeclared war on the US for 30 years and accepts the legitimacy and sovereignty of a vile and dangerous crank like Adminejad. Obama sides with Castro and Chavez because, after all, that’s where his heart is. That’s where his values lead him. He’s not naive, except when he believes his overweening and narcissistic self can charm and restrain America’s enemies who couldn’t care less about his claptrap and pish posh rhetoric. Obama is a man of the Left with the same biases, prejudices, and hates. How else could he have sat in Reverend Wright’s church for 20 years?

Remember all the leftist loonies in 2004 and 2008 who said that the evil Bush would hold on to power at any cost and there would be no more elections?

Well now we have someone in the WH, along with a Democratic leadership determined never to lost power again, who just might try such a thing.

It’s called “projection.” The left has always had fantasies of staying in power forever, even as far back as FDR, and therefore they think everybody else does, too.

I always thought their fixation on Bush was particularly weird, because the Dems and the press (not to mention the RINOs) had already effectively destroyed Bush’s presidency, he had very little power, he accomplished virtually nothing, and towards the end of his term, he was rarely even seen in public - or when he did, the press didn’t even bother to carry it. And then Bambi appeared and started acting and presenting himself to the world as if he were the true president, months before he was even nominated as the Dem candidate.

Bizarro world.

I think you are one hundred percent correct. Obama told us our Constitution was flawed and I think he intends to correct it. I think Obama wants to bankrupt America and create turmoil so he can be President for life. The stimulus package, cap and trade and nationalized health care are going to bankrupt America, lead to run away inflation and create the turmoil Obama needs!

Gotta hand it to Ollie, this article is the best description of what actually happened, who did what, and when, that I have read on this subject. A telling detail: Zelaya’s ballots to make him president for life were printed in — surprise — Venezuela. It is shameful that our government is not standing with the Hondurans, who acted to save their democracy and their freedom. I hope they know that many of us are on their side and cheering them on. And I do not understand why the GOP is not raising holy hell about it. This is a freebie. Even the dictator-coddling Washington Post has editorialized about Obama being wrong on this one.

Agree....it is a good roundup of what's been happening in Honduras to this point. Although every MSM source referred to what happened as a military coup early on, I'm seeing more and more press articles that reveal a bigger picture of the "coup". Even MSNBC is putting out a bit more information in this articke, U.S. misread scale of Honduran rift .

Barak Obama
