The interim government in Honduras says it will block any attempt by ousted President Manuel Zelaya to return.
Mr Zelaya, who was removed by troops a week ago, has promised to fly home to the Central American nation later on Sunday.
But Foreign Minister Enrique Ortez said that any plane carrying Mr Zelaya would not be allowed to land.
The stand-off comes a day after the top regional body, the OAS, suspended Honduras over the crisis.
Supporters of the ousted leader were said to be gathering in the capital, Tegucigalpa, in order to meet him at the airport.
The BBC's Stephen Gibbs, in the capital, says there are growing fears of violence. The capital's archbishop has warned of a possible "bloodbath".

I admire the Hondurans who protect their constitution admirably. Glad to see the military stepping up against tyranny.
Remember, it’s not the fall that’ll kill you, it’s the sudden stop.
Bloodshed... “all obama’s fault” - just like he is responsible for the deaths in iran...
Just imagine the different response to this from the United States of America if George W. Bush was still President.
Can you believe free people would stand up for someone, who is trying to break their own countries law? The president committed an unconstitutional act. If they have the death penalty, then he should be tried and put to death.

Zero's gonna lose his svelte figure if he has to keep going out for ice cream...
That’s a good move strategically. Avoids the spectacle on the ground that Zelaya wanted to appear on television across the world. I hope the Honduran people can turn back the Chavez-Zelaya-Obama alliance against constitutional democracy.
He can walk it off on the golf course.
Wish our own military would do the same. Lord knows the Obamanation is running circles around our constitution.
From another website.
They sound capable enough to stop an airliner. They fly F-5s.
I recommend the use of an air-to-air missile.
All the drug lords in one place? Sounds like opportunity to me...
Zelaya wanted a showdown and was asking all his “followers” to show up at the airport. Good move by Honduras to avoid the showdown. The longer this goes on, the more the world is becoming aware of the real situation.
They need to just kill the little repugnant SOB. Whether they shoot him down en-route, or put a bullet in him once he’s on the ground... it makes no difference. But if he is persistent they should stay one step ahead in escalation of force. The next obvious step in that progression is to kill him.
He will (probably) try to come in through land routes (established by leftist El Salvador insurgents decades ago) on the Honduras-Salvador border. I doubt they would try to go through with the landing at Tegus nowadays. But with Chavez, Castro, El Salavador and others backing the deposed Marxist, anything could happen!
If he says he’s flying, he’s not. They’d better check every known entry point they can think of.
Complete with human shields.
If Chavez had any balls he’d join his buddy on this flight.
“I admire the Hondurans who protect their constitution admirably. Glad to see the military stepping up against tyranny.”
Amen to that!
Let’s hope he is removed again if he sneaks in.
Good tagline!
If this guy dies trying to re-enter the country that is Obama’s fault for encouraging him.
“When the investigations were made at the presidential house, black garbage bags filled with thousands and thousands of dollars were found, as well as in almost every drawer.”
We need to watch for this when we depose Obama.
Naw.... Three for the price of one is the way I see it. Too bad Chavez couldn't be present for as a foursome.
Is this being televised by news outlets. Let me know so I can fire up the popcorn. Just love seeing leftist getting wasted.

Why would you want to create a martyr out of the guy?
“Supporters of the ousted leader”
Many from Nicaraugua, Cuba and Venezuela, with wet ink on their Honduran passports.
Meanwhile, obama and Mrs bigfoot are heading off to Russia to kneel to Putin - voting “not present” on Honduras.
“Why would you want to create a martyr out of the guy?”
because those Che t-shirts are just too passe.
I guess the real question is whether Obama and the CIA were behind the coup.
...I know, no way - the coup was indigenous . But then you have to wonder about other coups, and whether we are to blame...just because the new government sides with us (at least the old USA).
I wish I had a few pesetas for each time I saw one of the following in that crowd:
Clenched fists (communist symbol).
Red flags
Che Guevara T Shirts
Masked faces.
Anti George Bush T shirts (go figure)
Scraggly, unshaven, stinking block organizers who had not had a shower in weeks.
In short, the lowlife, socialist scum of the earth trying to rise up, with Chavez, Castro, Ortega, Obama and CNN all on their side.
I got a kick out of all the ANTI-CNN signs in the pro-democracy, anti-Zelaya demonstrations, though (much larger, better looking group of adjusted people).
The interim government needs to impeach this lefty loon in abstentia to maintain their credibility.
Zelaya is a very rich man, son of one of the country's richest and most corrupt landowners. In addition, of course, there's his drug and corruption money, coupled with the $80,000 in charges he ran up on government credit cards in the last few weeks just before getting booted.
Arrest his ass and cart him off to where other enemies of democracy are sent — Gitmo.
Only problem is that after he’s shipped off for a fun-filled ice cream vacation in Bermuda, Obama would release his sorry ass to sneak back into Honduras again...

I think I would give up my left one to see some anti-CNN protesters over here ;-)
Good point. I have read that Honduras has had some trouble in the last few days with Nicaraguans, who have been infiltrating from that Communist country.

No wonder Obama likes them. It reminds him of his youth.
They will also bring in weapons. They will try to start a socialist, underground guerilla force to take on the interim government. Those supply routes are well organized since the mid 1970s, both in their fighting against democracy in El Salvador, and also the Sandinista vs. Contras.
With any luck they’ll stop it with some AA fire.

Absolutely. In fact, the ones who were arrested earlier in the week were apparently trying to do just that in one of Honduras' more remote "departamentos."
I certainly hope he doesn’t try this stunt.
I know there was one OAS country that did not vote to support him, but I don’t know which one it was. The others all voted to force Honduras to take him back, but I’m sure a number of them were heavily pressured by the Marxist countries and the US (apparently one and the same nowadays) and they may be regretting it now.
I suggest to the new Honduran government to some how get close to Taiwan and Israel very quickly, and plead for loans, weapons, money and other assistance. There are other ad hoc groups and well off anti-communist financiers they can approach to get them the assistance they need to weather the CNN-Obama-OAS-Chavez storm.
There is a brave man of integrity.
Why would you want to create a martyr out of the guy?
.
Most all of them are easy to forget
