But if you are not self employed and they take it out of your check you can’t do that right? I wanted to have my husband change the with holdings but then I worry about getting the fine.

The with holding from your wages is supposed to be voluntary. The IRS intimidates employers to make it mandatory. I always had mine at the highest number of dependents that would keep most of my money in the paycheck. One trick is to sign power of attorney over any contested years to your accountant. They cannot harrass you when that happens.

You have to look at messing with the Feds as a game. If you cannot stomach the thought of being attacked, then you should not play.
