During the campaign, I wrote a piece called "Why Won't Obama Talk About Columbia? — The years he won't discuss may explain the Ayers tie he keeps lying about." So now, nearly six months into the Obama presidency, the mainstream media has finally done a bit of the candidate background reporting it declined to do during the campaign — other than in Wasilla — and whaddya know? The New York Times unearthed a 1983 article called, "Breaking the War Mentality," that Columbia student Barack Obama wrote for a campus newspaper. The article shows that Obama dreaded American "militarism" and its "military-industrial interests," while effusing enthusiasm for the dangerously delusional nuclear-freeze movement.
Moreover, while indicating a preference for the political wisdom of reggae singer Peter Tosh over Ronald Reagan or Scoop Jackson, Obama bewailed the "narrow focus" of anti-militarism activists, worrying that they were targeting the "symptoms" rather than the real "disease," namely, America's underlying economic and political injustice:
Generally, the narrow focus of the [Nuclear] Freeze movement as well as academic discussions of first versus second strike capabilities, suit the military-industrial interests, as they continue adding to their billion dollar erector sets. When Peter Tosh sings that "everybody's asking for peace, but nobody's asking for justice," one is forced to wonder whether disarmament or arms control issues, severed from economic and political issues, might be another instance of focusing on the symptoms of a problem instead of the disease itself.
Obama nevertheless did see some advantage in homing in on a small target:
Mark Bigelow [a graduate student who helped run "Arms Race Alternatives" (ARA), another of the campus organizations lauded in Obama's article] ... points to fruitful work being done by other organizations involved with disarmament. "The Freeze is one part of a whole disarmament movement. The lowest common denominator, so to speak. For instance, April 10-16 is Jobs for Peac [sic] week, with a bunch of things going on around the city. Also, the New York City Council may pass a resolution in April calling for greater social as opposed to military spending. Things like this may dispell the idea that disarmament is a white issue, because how the government spends its revenue affects everyone."
Obama, the budding community-organizer, also took time to praise "Students Against Militarism, an obscure campus group more ambitious in scope than ARA:
Also operating out of Earl Hall Center, Students Against Militarism was formed in response to the passage of [military draft] registration laws in 1980. An entirely student-run organizatoin, SAM casts a wider net than ARA, though for the purposes of effectiveness, they have tried to lock in on one issue at a time.
"At the heart of our organization is an anti-war focus", says junior Robert Kahn, one of SAM's fifteen or so active members. "From there, a lot of issues shoot forth — nukes, racism, the draft, and South Africa. "We have been better organized when taking one issue at a time, but we are always cognizant of other things going on, and collaborate frequently with other campus organizations like CISPES and REEL-POLITIK." [Quotation break in original.]
Student Obama summed up with near incoherent Lefty gobbledygook:
Indeed, the most pervasive malady of the collegiate system specifically, and the American experience generally, is that elaborate patterns of knowledge and theory have been disembodied from individual choices and government policy. What the members of ARA and SAM try to do is infuse what they have learned about the current situation, bring the words of that formidable roster on the face of Butler Library, names like Thoreau, Jefferson, and Whitman, to bear on the twisted logic of which we are today a part. By adding their energy and effort in order to enhance the possibility of a decent world, they may help deprive us of a spectacular experience — that of war. But then, there are some things we shouldn't have to live through in order to want to avoid the experience.
Who knew?
Nice as it is of the media to scratch the surface journalists should have been mining over a year ago, the current disastrous straits for the country are that — as Jen Rubin contends at contentions — the Obama who is off to Russia to cut unratifiable deals with the recrudescent Soviets hasn't really changed in the ensuing quarter-century.
Obama has not changed one iota from this.
I thought this deserves a place on the front page
Indeed
download the pdf before it vanishes into the obama fantasy factory.
Exactly!
The people of this country have their heads up their a—— electing this freaking Marxist a—hole.
“The people of this country have their heads up their a electing this freaking Marxist ahole”
We may have to march on D.C. and stay there until he leaves.
No wonder Zer0 is over in Russia talking to Medvedev about scaling back our nuclear arsenals. Of course, we will turn our nuclear weapons into plowshares while Russia will merely put them on an elevator down to an underground storeage facility.
I strongly encourage all to read that article from the “Sundial.” In addition to its horrid prose and occasional lapses in spelling and grammar, it reveals a stance towards war, international negotiations, and the nuclear freeze movement that proved itself to be spectacularly wrong.
A small bit of information was uncovered here - we know that in 1983, the current occupant of the Oval Office was going by the appellation of “Barack Obama”, rather than the “Barry Soetero” he had fancied earlier, as an Indonesian national.
Bit by bit, even more of this vital background will be dragged out and exposed. Whether anyone will pay attention is another problem altogether.
Some people's views mature with time. Narcissists don't seem to change very much--they were right to begin with, and are right for all time.
Ayers, and the Dohrn sisters, one of whom was a professor at Columbia, selected the Columbia School of General Studies as an excellent hiding place for their protegé. In fact, I would not be at all surprised if Bill Ayers were the author of this piece, as its heavily marxist flavor is certainly reminiscent of his style, rather than Obama, who, one might suspect, is just as tongue-tied a writer as he is an illogical and nonsensical extemporaneous speaker.
BTW, who picked up the tab for Obama in these days, when he lived very close to Ayers in NYC?
“The Reagan administration’s stalling
at the Geneva ta1Iks on nuclear weapons
has thus already caused severe
tension and could ultimately bring about
a dangerous rift between the United
States and Western Europe. By being
intransigent, Reagan is playing directly
into the Russians’ hands.”
“In 1933 the German establishment
thought it could use Hitler to restore a
modicum of order to the confused and
confusing Weimar Republic. In fact,
Hitler did strengthen the German establishment,
but not exactly in the way
the bankers and businessmen had
wanted; and now, fifty years later, it is
clear who was using whom.”
“Nevertheless, the Western World
did not complain in 1933 because Hitler,
though a fascist and a totalitarian, was
seen, like countless American puppet
dictators today, as someone who leaves
the established order in place.”
THIS person is a lunatic. He is actually carrying out the very policies of Hitler he decries, and trying to undo Reagan’s policies which he also decries. Mindbending stuff.
Exactly.
“BTW, who picked up the tab for Obama in these days, when he lived very close to Ayers in NYC?”
Good question.
He doesn’t want his left wing views from his youth known? Why not? Wouldn’t harm him now and it certainly would not have changed the outcome of the election even IF the “news” media had widely publicized it last fall. All the negatives about him were out there and few besides us really cared. It’s pathetic and scary.
No wonder Zer0 is over in Russia talking to Medvedev about scaling back our nuclear arsenals
.
Reliving his childhood, Øbama’s peace will be America’s Achilles Heel, our enemies are mostly lying in wait, except North Korea...
OBAMA Wrote: “Most people my age remember well the air-raid drills in school, under the the desk with our heads tucked between our legs. Older people, they remember the Cuban Missile Crisis”
I remember the air raid drills....they were during the Cuban Missile crisis, so where and when did Obama climb under his desk...in Indonesia? Or was it in Hawaii in 1970 when he was back. I doubt anyone was climbing under their desks in Hawaii in 1970...well, maybe they were worried about Japan.
Why Won’t Obama Talk About Columbia?
1) Crappy grades
2) Someone paid Obama’s tuition that is more controversial then Ayers
The Republicans know that the Monica Media is on their opponents’ side. If they were serious about winning the presidency, they could have conducted thorough opposition research (they never heard of LEXIS-NEXIS?)
Instead, the McCain campaign shied away from anything which might cast Obama in a poor light. They prefer to reserve their bitter ire for conservatives.
And the Republican Party had the gall to call me and ask for money the other day.
“All the negatives about him were out there and few besides us really cared.”
All I remember is a pretty girl saying how sexy Obama was, and all his “do gooder” community activism was.(Nothing about his radical background).
And this is supposed to be the same guy who wrote Dreams of My Father, critically acclaimed as the best written political memoir in generations. I don't think so. This guy is a 24k gold plated phony and the world will slowly come to realize this.
OBOZO is a Leftwing Raging Lunatic that Hid His Entire Past History! Dispicable!
No no, you see Bill Ayers wrote the book for Barry and Billy the terrorist Ayers can well remember ducking under his desk in air radi drills. I’m 63 and remember them just as well. Soetoro was just too doped up to realize the contradictions created with having Billy Ayers write his book, and Barry Soetoro’s voters are too stupid to care so long as he keeps the handouts rolling in.
Dreams of somebody’s father is probably as big a hoax as Alex Haley’s plagiarized Roots and JFK’s ghostwritten Profiles in Courage.
Do you have the link for it?
Affirmative Action = US Taxpayer.
Peter Tosh? Why no, our President doesn’t huff the Ganja. Never.
I am a little older than obama and we never had such drills.
Obama is lying just like clinton lied about all the burning churches.

Ayers may well have helped write this article in 1983...someone older than Obama helped him
No — no — That quote is by a “Don Kent”, not a statement by Obama.
Who’d a thunk a man that thinks like Ayers and was bred for corruption and politics would make it to the Presidency?
this makes sense. Expect all the dirty laundry to be dribbled out on the back pages over of the next year. That way, by 2012, it is all old news. Thanks to the Marx-Stream-Media - have they ever not liked a dictator, any where any time?
We never had 'em when I was in school.
I've found out over the past few years that you can learn how to do that "duck and cover" stuff pretty fast anyway.
We could uncover the worst imaginable about Obama
... campus radical, Ayers ghost wrote those narcissistic books, or a drug addict/dealer in college.... those are resume enhancementsto the left. How do you think we ended up with the little man/child Emperor in the first place?
Don’t expect any backlash if those stories unfold. The moonbats in Washington and in the media consider them character builders.
We keep looking for the Obama’s disastrous first 6 months to speak volumes enough for people to wake up, but there is nothing going to shake the willful ignorance out of them.
We had them in school - and I am almost exactly Obama’s age.
How did Obama pass University Writing?
Mom MD...were you born in 1961? If so you would start school in 1966. From my memories the air raid drills were during the Kennedy years, I never remember any after 1964 and I lived on military bases. Obama was going to school in Indonesia until 1970.
Ghosts!
I was hoping I’d never have to lay eyes on the Spec again. Thanks a lot!
TFTF - Too Financed To Fail.
I went to schools all over the place (military brat) and never, ever did a "duck and cover" drill. I thought those were from the 50s and maybe into the mid 60s? Wouldn't Obie have gone to school in the 70s?
We had fire drills.
Never started doing duck and cover drills 'til 2004. And those have all been for real.
0bama is a nutjob of the highest order, god only knows what his real aims are.
3) Papers written by Ayers.
Just what you’d figure he’d have written. It’s just the same standard naive college student views he holds now. Few people, except for some leftist ideological dictators, ‘like’ the idea of war. Most people hate the idea and reality of war. But, they are mature enough to understand that we have to have a military for the same reasons that we have to have locks on our doors, and to protect our bank account and credit card numbers, and to protect our children from predators. They know that the reality of the world as the world currently is dictates that they do these things, and that they have a military, and that as much as they would want the world to be the kind of place where you can leave your doors open and your children play freely, it is not.

This civil defense practice was fading fast and almost gone during the 1960's. It was more a school hallmark of the Eisenhower years in the 1950's. The reference here is just some standard leftist boilerplate prose that Ayers might use.
In regard to the question, "Who paid for Obama?" ... beyond Ayers and the Chicago Muslim Activists, that is an excellent question. Obama returned from Indonesia to Hawaii at around 9 or 10 years of age, was later put in the exclusive Punahou Prep School by his grandparents, who were "very good friends" with Frank Marshal Davis and his Chicago socialite wife ... so between the age of 10 and graduation from Harvard Law, we don't really have an accurate picture of what this guy was doing ... there are even tenuous links between Obama in his "Black Power" phase, and some highly suspicious criminal activities.
We just don't know. And he's not telling. Ever.
