GASTONIA, N.C. -- South Carolina Law Enforcement agents are investigating in Gaston County, N.C., after a man suspected of trying to burglarize a home was shot to death by police.
SLED officials could not confirm whether the shooting was linked to the recent slayings of five people near Gaffney, S.C. They said they are checking any cases with similarities to the serial killings.

Gaston County police said they received a call about a possible burglary early Monday, and when three officers arrived, they found three people inside the home in the 700 block of Dallas-Spencer Mountain Road. Two were a brother and sister pair who owns the home and the third was an acquaintance, police said.
Police said the acquaintance first gave a fake name to officers. They said they then discovered the man had an outstanding warrant from nearby Lincoln County, and when they tried to serve the warrant, the man pulled out a gun and opened fire on the officers.
Police said the man shot Officer J.K. Shaw of the Gastonia Police Department in the foot at about 2:45 a.m. The other officers fired back and killed the man.

I’ve been wondering since I first heard of this.....why the almost instant labeling of these crimes as ‘serial killings’? Sure there could be something obvious at each scene that they’re not releasing that would make these killings the work of a serial killer but on the surface this sounds nothing like the work of a ‘serial killer’. I’m surprised that the local PD hasn’t come out with a nickname for this supposed ‘serial killer’ too. For crying out loud hasn’t SC law enforcement ever heard of spree killing? Why in the world is there this insistence of the LEO’s and media to keep calling this the work of a ‘serial killer’ is beyond me.
Can you put me on the NC ping?
BTW I used to live less than a mile where the shooting took place on Spencer Mtn Rd.
...am in gastonia now.
Fox is reporting an official in Gaffney is calling this a “spree killing”
Sure, welcome aboard!
I used to live not too far from Dallas, nearby in Mecklenburg. It seems strange that the killings would all take place in Gaffney yet that the guy would end up on the far side of Gaston County, if it is indeed him.
It just makes more sense at this point.
