STF: Did you know Michelle Obama had bought a piece of your jewelry? Were you surprised when you saw her wearing it?
DL: No, I didn't. We sent Ikram Goldman of Ikram Chicago (who carries the FENTON collection) a selection of our new resort collection but had no idea one of the pieces would end up on Mrs. Obama. I was shocked and elated! She always looks impeccable and is so confident in her style.
STF: Tell us a little about the piece she was wearing, what inspired it.
DL: Her piece is one-of-a-kind but there is a whole series in that group from resort 2009/2010. It's a tribal/deco mix of bib rhinestones and vintage coins with mixed metal chains. I loved the idea of mixing very refined elements with bohemian tribal details.
