Modernists love to cite contemporary reasons as to why every one of our founding principles are no longer relevant. But those principles will always apply

“those principles will always apply”
++++++++++++++++

You must be cognizant and aware of “contemporary reasons” or people from all persuasions will conclude you and those unchanging principles currently foolish. I don’t believe that’s the result you want. Perhaps you can elaborate on how you would protect this nation from the many grave dangers at its doorstep.

At least one key way is tracking some part of the communication between questionable overseas groups and (questionable) people inside this country. Saying that is not to deny the Ben Franklin principle you cited [“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”]

Go ahead, let’s discuss the details - but do you agree with that premise?

What is ‘essential liberty’?
