Risking Israel's ire, US takes 1,350 Palestinian refugees
CS Monitor ^ | July 7, 2009 | Patrik Jonsson

Atlanta - The State Department confirmed today that as many as 1,350 Iraqi Palestinians – once the well-treated guests of Saddam Hussein and now at outs with much of Iraqi society – will be resettled in the US, mostly in southern California, starting this fall.

It will be the largest-ever resettlement of Palestinian refugees into the US – and welcome news to the Palestinians who fled to Iraq after 1948 but who have had a tough time since Mr. Hussein was deposed in 2003. Targeted by Iraqi Shiites, the mostly-Sunni Palestinians have spent recent years in one of the region's roughest refugee camps, Al Waleed, near Iraq's border with Syria.

"Really for the first time, the United States is recognizing a Palestinian refugee population that could be admitted to the US as part of a resettlement program," says Bill Frelick, refugee policy director at Human Rights Watch in Washington.

Given the US's past reluctance to resettle Palestinians – it accepted just seven Palestinians in 2007 and nine in 2008 – the effort could ruffle some diplomatic feathers.

For many in the State Department and international community, the resettlement is part of a moral imperative the US has to clean up the refugee crisis created by invading Iraq. The US has already stepped up resettlement of Iraqis, some who have struggled to adjust to life in America.*

From a link off the original article...

“...they find it difficult to work in menial jobs and give up their earlier lifestyle, she says.

This spring, as a stopgap measure, the State Department released $5 million in emergency rent stipends to help refugees on the verge of eviction.

Yasmin and Othman left Iraq last fall to start a new life in Lynn, Mass. Like many refugees, they had imagined a new life – a good one – for themselves and their four children. But now they live on state assistance and food stamps.

The family's small, three-bedroom apartment is dingy, despite their attempts to scrub it. On a bookshelf, photographs of the family in their garden in Iraq remind them of better days.

Othman was twice offered a job as a packer at a bread company, IRC officials say, but he rejected it because he wanted to work as a welder. Othman insists that the packer job wouldn't pay enough to support his family, and he wants to work in his field.

“We came here because we had no safety or security because of the US war in Iraq,” Yasmin says. “But we didn't think people were allowed to live like this in America.... If we could go back to Iraq, we would.”

Sounds like a liberal entitlement rat to me, this is insane!

“What percent of these are TERRORIST?”

That really is the problem, isn’t it? No one really knows. I suppose some could be gentle little lambs, but they were friends of Saddam...doesn’t sound good, does it?

It’s even worse. Saddam brought Palestinians to Iraq to do secret police dirty work to Iraquis that Iraquis wouldn’t do themselves, much as Hitler used a lot of Ukranians in the SS to run extermination camps, like Treblinka. It’s subhumans like that which the usurper is bringing to the US. Wonder why?? Who are the next targets???

Two issues:

The Hmong were on our side!

And, Pali's in Iraq, "well-treated [sunni] guests of Saddam Hussein", had a whole lot cushier life before than did 'Montanards' of SE Asia.

Otherwise, the article just repeats Obama's mantra:
"For many in the State Department and international community, the resettlement is part of a moral imperative the US has to clean up the refugee crisis created by invading Iraq."
WE created palastinian career refugees because we invaded Iraq??

no money
no jobs
dire straights

but we will bring even more unskilled into this country.
I said bozo would do this before the election and so he has.

He will give out much more than this I bet, green cards to Africans, muslims but no never white christian Europeans.

How about those christian in Pakistan, Saudi, Yemen, many parts of Africa etc who are being killed or not allowed to practise their religion?

bozo and his supporters make me sick and right now it has got tot he point of when I see someone with a bozo shirt on or a bumper sticker I say something like how you think he is doing now with all this debt, spending, saying Iran could go nuclear etc

They just look so dumb when confronted that their jaw has dropped and they have no idea what to say

My curiosity is overwhelming as to why, what brought the Federal Government to the conclusion that specifically Southern California should be targeted for the release into our society of these people nobody even in their part of the World want.

Same thing happened during the time of Obama’s protege Jimmy Carter, but at least those folks didn’t have a history of whackin’ heads off.

I for one am getting mighty tired of the ruling attitude of the Federal Government that is supposed to be subservient to the States, and for purposes that do not include the “ruling” of our lives, but for the protection of our Constitution, and thus our lives.

More and more the Left succeed in reinventing our Government in the light of the tyranny our Founding Fathers sought to reject.

It’s ugly now, but I fear we haven’t seen ugly at its ugliest yet. Don’t post a picture of Helen Thomas please.

Why don’t we just give them a free ride back to the West Bank or Gaza? NO, we have to bring them to the U.S. Iraq doesn’t want them, Jordan doesn’t want them, and we can see what Israel has to put up with when they live on their border.

I guess we could say the same thing about the Jews, nobody wanted them, but the Jews aren’t blowing themselves up around the planet just to make a point. I think there’s a real racial issue when it comes to the Jews, but there is good reason to be leery of bringing Palestinians to the U.S. The track record is quite clear.

These folks are a real risk. Per chance they’re decent people, I don’t see a problem with placing them with others like them in the Middle East, and giving the idea to move them to the U.S. a pass.

It’s too much to hope for poetic justice that the only people killed in the inevitable suicide bombings be State Department employees.

It's awful easy, these days, to have the sensation that we are drowning in a cesspool... with no end to the excrement pouring in from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
