JERUSALEM (JTA) -- A Yemeni Jewish woman who reportedly ran away from her new husband's home has embraced Islam, according to a Yemeni newspaper.
The English-language Yemen Observer reported Monday that Lia Saeed Hamdi was going to marry a Muslim man from the northern Yemen village of Kharif, located near her hometown.
Citing Jewish sources, the News Yemen Web site reported last week that Hamdi had been kidnapped from her husband's home in Tourist City in the capital Sana'a after their wedding. Hamdi married the Jewish man, Haroun Salem, on June 30 after the family refused the Muslim man's request to marry her, the report said.
Both reports said Hamdi's jewelry and money were stolen from Salem's home.
Yemen's deputy prime minister and a number of government officials attended the wedding of Hamdi and Salem.
Was it a willing embrace, I wonder?
Hope she enjoys her Koran-mandated, daily beatings.
I wonder if the Yemeni community will kidnap and behead or stone her for abandoning her faith, as will be the case if she changes her mind tomorrow?
I expect bands of Jewish terrorists will now engage in a few dozen honor beheadings (do I really need a /sarc?).
Possible; but possibly also a “forcible” kidnap in which the woman is now a prisoner of her new husband.
(Such things have happened in Yemen in the past; and once “converted” to Islam, the “covert” and her relatives/former family lose all rights.)
