Sotomayor reasserts 2nd Amendment does not apply to the states
Fox News Channel | 7/14/09

Posted on 07/14/2009 7:06:47 AM PDT by pabianice

Mentioned "hunting" and "target practice" as legitimate uses for a gun, as long as the state decides you can have one. Not one word on self-defense.

Senator,
A vote AGAINST Sonia Sotomayor will be a vote FOR principle.

Regardless of her testimony and responses, she is a dangerous leftist. And the argument by the increasingly silly and irrelevant Lindsey Graham that she is no worse than Souter is akin to a doctor telling you that your lung cancer is cured – but you have leukemia.

Should you be tempted to vote FOR her to curry favor with Georgia’s large Hispanic population, you will be making a HUGE error in judgment. Thousands of them are non-citizens, here in violation of immigration laws and, in light of the recent idiotic Justice Department ruling that Georgia may NOT require voters to show ID, ACORN (or whatever they are calling themselves today) will drag them to the polls on election day anyway. And if you think they will vote for you because you supported Sotomayor, you had better think again: ACORN WILL INSTRUCT THEM VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRAT OR THEY WON’T GET THE PROMISED 20 BUCKS, PACK OF SMOKES OR WHATEVER.

VOTE “NO” ON SOTOMAYOR!

Yes, if it doesn’t apply to the states then why does the First say “Congress shall make no law...” and the Second say “...shall not be infringed.”? And further, if she’s such a stickler on incorporation, why does she support the it for the First with LESS justification?

Free Republic has a long list of NRA haters who tell other posters they will not join because of something that happened forty years ago.

But when help is needed the first thing on everyone’s minds is the NRA.

Rudyard Kipling wrote something about that.

If we were only that lucky. I’m a little worried about the next nominee after she gets shot down. She might be a sacrificial pawn in greater plan. So we might get much worse in the next one and there will be a greater expectation toward confirmation after destroying the first one not to mention more pressure from the press and Obamaniacs.

Obama’s pick for Supreme Court Justice, Sotomayor – a divisive voice and an embarrassment to the Supreme Court.

I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion [as a judge] than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.

This statement above is categorically the epitome of racism. Why is Ms. Sotomayor stereotyping and assuming that white male judges can not render fair and just judgments and that the cases presented before a supreme court justice will inevitably involve experiences solely reserved for a Latina woman? The nomination of a United States supreme court justice should involve an individual’s qualifications and character, not ethnic background or other divisive considerations.

They need to get the word out that a vote for her will be recorded as an anti-gun vote. They haven't done that yet.

I’ve got Boxer and Feinstein, but I still harass them daily.
They need to know their ideas and votes are unpopular in their state..even if they are safe, they know that others in their party may go down in the next elections. That may allow them to give nod to a blue dog that they won’t be punished for a no vote. Pressure..pressure. Plus it doesn’t hurt if they start worrying that the natives are really restless.

-- The NRA is taking a wait and see approach to her. --

Wayne LaPierre was on FoxNews yesterday, and seemed to be 100% against confirmation.

I think the Sotomayor nomination presents a teachable moment that will be wasted. The debate will be on "incorporation," and in that somewhat esoteric legalism, most people will NOT learn that the Circuit Courts have been lying their asses off about binding precedent.

puhleeze.... It's over and she's going to get the seat on SCOTUS. WHat "blue dog" Senator are you talking about? Hell, the two Senators from Texas are probably going to vote for her. It's all a big show as IF we lived in a representative democracy.

It's over. All we can do is hope that we can cheat as well as the libs in the next election.... but we won't and we can't.

Ever wonder how 10-13% of the population is black and another 10-15% is hispanic, but we get all these wonderful programs... it's because of the 20-30% criminal and pathologically lazy in the white population join with them in order to suck off the government nipple. The crook, scammers, union thugs, communist, socialist, and government employees are living off the smaller percentage of working and producing members of society....

We're toast.

It's about defense against government and none of the government shills and hacks (be they leftists, libs, dems, or RINOs) want to admit that or acknolwedge it.

They fear the second amendment...as any tyrant wann-be well should.

When government fears the people you have liberty, when people fear the government you have tyranny.

The 2nd amendment keeps the government in check.

Molon Labe!

People like Obama and his ilk understand this and they want to ultimately find a way to neuter and defang the 2nd amendment precisely because they want total control.

The one thing Libtards have right is you have to work from inside the system to change it. Problem is there are too many slimey liberal lawyers looking to make a buck off of “victimized” minorities and not enough conservative ones that believe in equal protection under the law. The former looks at the profession purely from a self enriching viewpoint and the latter as a civic duty with opportunity to serve the people (not to say they can’t make money the honest way).

Question from Sessions. Do you believe Heller and cases from several courts of appeal reaffirm the right of a person to have a firearm for self-defense?

From Sotomayor. I agree with Heller in that the 2nd Amendment applies to the federal government, not the states. Guns are ok for hunting and target shooting as long as the states allow it. Blah, Blah, Blah.
