Russias provocative U-turn signalled clearly that G8 pronouncements are immaterial and should not be taken too seriously. In reality, Moscow has no intention whatsoever to cut its emissions in the near future. Quite the opposite. Just over a month ago, the Russian President announced that his country intended to increase CO2 emissions by 30% by 2020. No wonder that G8 states find it impossible to agree on a credible, short-term emissions target as the developing world is demanding.
No wonder then that India and China remain opposed to any target setting. Neither can afford to sign up to mandatory emissions cuts, in whatever form or shape. Both countries are in the midst of economic and energy booms that will determine much of the 21st century. Both countries have categorically ruled out any mandatory emissions cuts, thereby ensuring that the diplomatic tug of war will continue for many years to come.
Even if they significantly increased their energy efficiency and were able to introduce an extensive assortment of low-carbon technologies (which is in the range of the possible), it is still expected that Chinas and Indias CO2 emissions will nearly double over the next three decades.
By 2050, China and India together will have grown to a staggering three billion people. By then, most Chinese and Indians will have adopted an urban lifestyle, with cars, air conditioning, refrigerators, televisions and computers.
All Western efforts to coerce these emerging countries into a legally binding climate treaty are prone to failure because the nations whose emissions count most China and India will continue to reject, categorically, any mandatory caps on their rapidly rising emissions. To counter Western pressure, India and China (in close partnership with other emerging nations) have raised their demands to such levels that they are effectively impossible to accept.

By 2050 we won’t be using gasoline. As opposed as I am to needlessly discarding internal combustion technologies based on petroleum, technology will have advanced by that time to make such a technology obsolete. One can see this by the pace of technological advancement. What liberals invariably do is trick people into believing technological advancement is right around the corner.
Can't afford it? What's that got to do with anything? /s
Did anyone see the recent National Geographic edition dedicated to Global Warming. It was disgusting. They touted all the discredited globull warming BS and gave no counter information. WHat a let down from a magazine I used to respect.
Hey, don’t say that Globull Warming is not real. You might stem the guilt in people that keeps them buying nifty packaged “green” products and squiggly light bulbs.
Thats a hugh money machine, dontchaknow?
You make an excellent point. The long-term trend of all technology is to become cleaner and more efficient. By 2050 fossil fuel use may very well be on the decline. But these nutjobs think they can force it to happen in 2012 by Congressional fiat.
IOW, Hussein lost. :) Makes me feel good.
By 2050 there will be just you and me left, where would we go?
I'm not sure what you're asking.
It's not only the money. Man-made GW hoax is also an outlet for dishonest people to show others they are better then the rest of population. For them, green crap is badly needed badge of honor.
Show me a person who drives a hybrid to save nature, drinks a coffee from recycled potty and has CFL in his home and I will show you a person who is either stupid or rotten to the core. Or both.
All those idiots who drum this crap should be sent back to Grade 6 to learn that ice cube displaces it's volume and when melted the level of water will not rise. Some of those idiots hold PhD and do not know that. Yet, they scare other feeble minded that floes will melt and sea level will rise.
They also scare us about North Pole melting, as if they never seen this photo:
The times are dangerous and we have to confront the idiots in our midst. They are armed and dangerous - they can vote.
