Live on national TV isn't public? I live in Texas, now as then, but I saw the events of April 19th on TV from a hotel room in suburban Boston, not 20 miles from Lexington and Concord. Patriot Day events were then ongoing even as Mt. Carmel burned.

Not the same. A live event with reporters in the midst of a million people is quite different...quite different...and could not be spun, no matter how hard they tried...I share your outrage...but his would NOT be the same thing...
