The city's plans to step up cooperation with federal authorities in efforts to deport illegal immigrants is garnering new debate in the 2009 mayoral contest. Latino advocates have pressed candidates to distance themselves from Mayor Bill White's request that Houston be allowed to participate in two federal programs that, at least within the confines of the city's jails, would put police officers in the immigration enforcement business. While each of the four major candidates generally opposes diverting too many resources to immigration enforcement, they all support the thrust of the city's new effort to screen jail inmates and turn over suspected illegal immigrants to ICE agents.
Those positions could upset Latino activists...Immigration enforcement has become a central issue in Houston after two police officers were killed and one seriously injured in recent years by illegal immigrants. In March, White requested that city jailers have access to ICE's master immigration database as part of the Secure Communities program, in addition to training jailers through the 287g program....
“This has an impact on cooperation with law enforcement, reporting of crime, and folks participating in the census,” said Marc Campos, a political consultant who, with City Councilman James Rodriguez, helped organize the Houston Area Latino Summit Mayoral Debate. “I don't think anybody has demonstrated that doing this is going to have a significant reduction in … crime. If you let them implement this, what's next? What other kind of policy will creep in?”...

Deport the Latina activists and if they own property put it up for auction and use the proceeds to fund their deportation. Fine the hell out of employers that pay ILLEGALS and put them out of business with NO government bailouts. I’m sick and tired of paying for ILLEGALS.
Either we take back our country and put in politicians with backbones and who are ethical and will enforce the laws on the books and solve immigration problems the right way or we’re doomed. I don’t recognize America anymore (actually haven’t recognized it in more than 20 years....)

Yeah, and enforcing IRS collections could upset flat tax advocates. After all, the income tax is racist and unfairly and disproportionally targets a whole class of people-- small business owners and large income earners who disproportionally pull the load for all of society.

Houston like most large cities is a majority “human debris” jurisdiction with about primary groups of the population being transients, poor blacks, foreigners [legal and illegal], criminals of all species, white trash, a few American working class types caught in the malstrum and a few white rich liberals.
The current mayor Bill White is a rich white liberal guy who used to be Slick Willie’s Under Secretary of Commerce. Although a relative good administrator, he is politically an amoral democrat thinking of running for US Senator.
The four running for Mayor are typical liberal debris. The Police Union has been raising hell about all the police being murdered by illegals who have been in and out of jail and even deported accasionally. The Federal government does give a damn as well as being incompetent. The local pols are too busy sucking up to Hispanic activists and other traitors. The state pols [ including Governor “good hair” Perry] are just typical BSing type Repubicans.
One of my biggest beefs with George W Bush was that he had ran the most corrupt and lawless administration up to the current Kenyan communist’s regime. Both had/have open borders to illegals; criminals as well as just plain day laborers.
The country may go past the need for tea parties and move on to the likes of Committees for Public Safety [as in Virginia City Montana 1863]

Some asked what kind of mayor would do this kind of thing.
The answer is, one who’s doing the job he’s elected to do. His job is to protect the american citizens of his city. Illegals only have human rights in this country, and therefore should be treated properly while they are deported.
