Coupled with Shumer's virtually unreported claims that we just avoided a financial meltdown, this has me terribly concerned. This can be viewed at http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/paulson-reveals-us-concerns-of-breakdown-in-law-and-order-1750076.html .

This is not the generation which lived through the Depression and WW II. Those people pulled together for the common good and endured sacrifices.

If tough times returned today it would look like the movie "Mad Max". See "New Orleans..........Katrina".

I'll take my chances with that over being ruled by unelected clowns in the shadows.

This is troubling. Perhaps Bush will come out looking like a savior. But recall that the Great Depression was made “great” entirely by the intrusion of government, first with Smoot-Hawley, then with the Fed slashing the amount of money in the system, then with Hoover’s taxes, then with FDR’s taxes, then with the Alphabet Soup programs, particularly the minimum wage law that absolutely killed employment recovery. So perhaps we were saved. Perhaps all that happened was that Bush forestalled a mini-recession that could have ended in a quick recovery if government had gotten out of the way.

Okay, if true I read this as President Bush saved western civilization. That’s the story here. And since everyone said Dick Cheney was the real power in the admin, I guess this means Dick Cheney saved western civilization.

I remain unconvinced that Paulson was concerned with much besides funneling money to his old pals at Goldman Sachs.

Hey, did you hear they made a profit this quarter? It only cost 10 billion dollars to make a 3.5 billion dollar profit! Whoopitydoo.

Saved? Perhaps, but we are not out of the woods. My concern is that everything could still fall apart - heck - it looks like we’re on track for it.

Too bad we don’t have a ‘free and independent’ press here that would report this. While it *could* cause panic, I think many would pass it off as gov’t hyperbole. But for those of us who care, it would be helpful.

They should still be having “discussions.” We’re far closer to riots and chaos now than we were then. People can only be pushed so far, but I’m not really talking about financial meltdown. The overall cultural takeover/makeover- and oppressive, confiscatory mindset of this administration is reaching a boiling point for many of us. After healthcare as we know it in this country is destroyed, part of which will include the necessary confiscation of all firearms, all hell will break loose.

It cost us more like at least $33 billion (that we know of) for them to make that $3.5 billion, if you add the $20 billion they borrowed from TARP plus the $13 billion Paulson laundered for them through the AIG scam that, which they got to keep and don't have to pay back.

State sovereignty.
If you’re in a hopeless state - move.

Move to a state that will ignore/insulate itself from the federal fiasco.

LOL, more optimistic ‘thinking’ in DC. Can anyone recall a govt program that wasn’t an over budget failure and which didn’t meet even a tiny % of its goals? Now they’re talking about feeding us. LOL, now thats funny....I can hardly imagine what that might look like other than a huge grab of natural resources making those in DC very fat while the rest of the country starves. No thanx...if you’re from the govt I’m assuming your here to help (yourselves). This is the stuff of unhappy endings. Real change never comes from DC.
