I have a FReeper friend who leaves for medical school in a couple of weeks.......I hope it is a healthy field to be in when he gets out.
Trained for 10 additional years after college to be an M.D., specialize, sub-specialize, and do what I do. Ran up big student loan debt, and lived a spartan life. Will never have those years of my life back. Have always felt that being a doctor was a huge privilege, and that it was a social contract that expected from me the commitment to go sleepless when necessary and to put my patients before myself. Those were voluntary choices. I will not cede my liberty to the government. My life, like all lives, matters. I am not a pawn of those like Obama who have much less education than me but are arrogant enough to think they know more than anyone else. I wish your friend well, but if this goes where Obama wants it to go I would not do medicine as a career.
