Cronkite: Jimmy Carter 'Smartest President'(But how many people did Walter convince anyway?)

Deceased news icon Walter Cronkite went on the record saying that in his opinion President Jimmy Carter was the nation’s “smartest president,” according to the Media Research Center (MRC).

After the death of Cronkite, the MRC reprised it’s 2006 compilation of what the center referred to as “his liberal leanings on a range of issues,” highlighting some kind words of praise the long-running anchor of the CBS Evening News had for President Jimmy Carter.

According to MRC, at a 2003 forum at Drew University the Daily Record of Parsippany, New Jersey reported that Cronkite said “he feared the war [U.S. invasion of Iraq] would not go smoothly, ripped the 'arrogance' of Bush and his administration and wondered whether the new U.S. doctrine of 'pre-emptive war' might lead to unintended, dire consequences.”

The newspaper also relayed how Cronkite on the heels of his Bush-bashing, added “that the smartest President he ever met was Jimmy Carter” and that journalists tilt to the left because “they see the poverty. They see the want.”

The Drew University remarks were recounted in MRC’s “Walter Cronkite: Liberal Media Icon” – in its self-styled category of “Denouncing Conservatives.” The full MRC collection of what it styles asCronkite's liberal pronouncements since the late 1980 included other categories: “Promoting Liberalism,” “Get Out of Iraq 'Now,'” “Believing in Conspiracies,” “Wishing for 'One World Government,'” “Terrorism Caused by Economic Disparity,” “Pushing for More Gun Control” and “Proud of News Media's Liberal Persuasion.”

As far as I am concerned, this pretty well sums up all you need to know about Cronkite's abilities.

A pathetic man draws upon another pathetic man for admiration.

The more I hear about Cronkite, the more stupid the guy was.

Walt would get erections over Carter’s Mum during the Democratic Convention in 76.

He’d get that goofy grin and say “I just love Miss Lillian!”

Didn’t Cronkite have a pseudo-GAY WEDDING ceremony in protest of fairies not being able to tie the knot in certain states?

As far as I am concerned, this pretty well sums up all you need to know about Cronkite's abilities.

He broadcast in a day when the networks tried and looked balanced, but I even as a kid caught the nuances of the lean left. After he retired, he left no doubt. He was a flaming liberal. I remember thinking "So I was right all the time, he was a leftist".

You can fool some of the people all the time, but not the smart ones.

Too bad he didn’t croak the same day the child molester did...

No, I disagree. According to other media sources, Kim Il Sung was the smartest ever, followed by Kim Jong Il.

Not only that, you should see their golf games.

James Earl “Jimmy” Carter. I would have preferred James Earl Jones as President over him. Then again, Darth Vader would have sounded silly with Carter’s voice.

The USSR viewed Carter as a weak president, someone that could be pushed around. They were correct.

The doomsayers predicted that we would lose in Iraq. Not face difficulties. That we would lose. Leave in shame with our tails between our legs.

The original campaign against Saddam went quickly.

Then a terrorist insurgency flooded into Iraq during the rebuilding effort. But we were no longer at war against Iraqis, we were at war against internationally sponsored terrorists.

The Civil War ended in short order (with many dead) but the Democrat founded KKK “insurgency” targeted those in the rebuilding effort and those who supported Republicanism. The KKK held power in the region for the better part of 100 years. No one clocks the Civil War as raging for 100 years.

World War II lasted 6+ years (although Bush’s detractors clocked it from December 1941, which ignores the years we were building up our military supplies). Immediately following the war against Germany/Japan/Italy we fell into a 50- year war against the Soviet Union on much of the same European terroritory.

Never have seen the doomsayers discredited for their wishes that Iraq turn into another Vietnam (as they have predicted of EVERY American campaign since Vietnam, except maybe some of Clinton’s).

When will people who idolize the brainy realize that brains are not the whole story - in fact, they play second fiddle to high ethic, honesty and honor in my book

The one thing I regret is that Cronkite didn't live long enough...and Teddy is unlikely to live long enough...to see the wind farm project off of the coast of Cape Cod completed.

There are a lot of smart idiots running around, and we can be thankful only one of them gets to be President at a time. The rest of them become bosses, politicians, professors, journalists, and political pundits.
