I have always privately laughed at all the peanut alarmists running around pulling peanuts off airplanes and out of school lunches, lest some one with allergies was anywhere near. That had to hurt peanut farmers a lot.
The Problem with Carter was his ample amount of Book Smarts and minuscule amount of Common Sense Everyday Life Smarts that caused all of his ideas to be theoretical and nothing that was applicable to the real-life situations.
Reagan had a good balance of both and he damned well knew how they applied to reality.
