"Right now, doctors a lot of times are forced to make decisions based on the fee payment schedule that's out there. ... The doctor may look at the reimbursement system and say to himself, 'You know what? I make a lot more money if I take this kid's tonsils out,'" Obama told a prime-time news conference.
The president added: "Now, that may be the right thing to do, but I'd rather have that doctor making those decisions just based on whether you really need your kid's tonsils out or whether it might make more sense just to change maybe they have allergies. Maybe they have something else that would make a difference."

He had better have proof. Presidents *can* be sued.
did he just set down the gauntlet for banning care for pay?
Curse those evil doctors. They should pass a law that all neighbors are notified whenever a doctor moves within a half mile of your house. Keep ‘em away from playgrounds and schools as well. So many kids with fresh tonsils running around there.
In his dismal performance this evening he said that someone other than doctors should make medical decisions because doctors have a profit motive. Did he forget that doctors give medical ADVICE and that the medical decisions are ours to make?
LOL! So he's going to put doctors on a flat fee?
If anyone knows about misdiagnosis it’s dumbass Obama.
So sugar pills, that’s it.
His words tonight show an angry bitter evil man who hates anything and everything American. I will NEVER forget who this charlatan is and I will NEVER forgive or forget those who voted for him ESPECIALLY that 98% of a certain group that voted for him
There goes that AMA support.
How. F****n. Stupid. !!!
Obama you aren’t a doctor.
Just his opinion that all doctors (ie the system) looks at their patients that way is proof of where he’s coming from. That this is the norm in healthcare. Now Barry, we could take the same tone about LAWYERS and say they’re all ambulance chasers (and be a lot more right about that than you about doctors, btw) and would you say we were right O-Hole, or would you say our premise isn’t quite right?
I am sure some docs are out there and primarily are interested in making money off their patients. I would say probably no more than shyster lawyers, crooked cops, cheesy used car salesmen and women, but I would say way less than your average gathering of politicians.
The fact you view them as adversarial and want to armchair quarterback medical decisions (not being a doctor) - you’re one guy who should never be in charge of anyone else’s healthcare but your own.
Hmmm! Too bad Obama wasn’t around with his wisdom when I was six. It must have been allergies that constantly made me sick, not those completely rotten tonsils they took out. You know how all doctors are....
BUT I’D RATHER have that doctor making those decisions just based on whether you really need your kid’s tonsils out or whether it might make more SENSE just to change maybe they have allergies. Maybe they have something else that would make a difference.”-Barack Obama July 22.2009 He is no doctor but he is telling you what he would rather SEE happen...if YOUR kid needs his tonsils out, he would rather YOU buy allergy pills at the dollar store. Or have your doctor deliberately misdiagnose to avoid a surgery.....Wonder what the AMA thought of that??
When did he get his M.D.?
“LOL! So he’s going to put doctors on a flat fee?”
In the end, maybe. How did doctors get paid in the Soviet Union ?
It *would* be fair, after all. From each according to his ability...
There’s a hell of a lot more malpractice going on in the legal system because of the profit motive - let’s socialize law!
Now there's an idea!!!
How is that different from denying treatment to the elderly in order to save the healthcare system money?
