BARACK OBAMA 'ACTED STUPIDLY'
boblonsberry.com ^ | 07/24/09 | Bob Lonsberry

Used to be, the cops and the president were on the same side.

That’s before we got change we could believe in.

Now the cops are on their own. Now officers can do their duty, according to the law and their training, and – without even knowing all the facts – the president of the United States will call them “stupid.”

More specifically, he will say they “acted stupidly.”

Which is pretty stupid in itself.

The nation’s chief law-enforcement official has taken on the nation’s law-enforcement officers.

And all across the country, some folks are asking themselves: If the president doesn’t respect the cops, why should I?

The nation’s hardest job just got harder. And, no, being president isn’t the nation’s hardest job – being a cop is.

The background, of course, is that a Harvard professor, who specializes in race history, broke into his own house because he forgot his key. A neighbor, not recognizing him, and seeing the break-in, called the police.

An officer responded.

And so did the professor.

According to the police report – which has not been disputed factually by either the professor or his defenders – the professor was antagonistic and insulting to the officer. Initially refusing cooperation, the professor repeatedly yelled at the officer and accused him of racism.

Did I mention that the cop was white and the professor was black?

As the officer prepared to leave the professor, he followed the cop out of the house, yelled at him twice – in front of a small crowd of people – and engaged in behavior that under Massachusetts law seems to constitute disorderly conduct.

That’s when the cop placed him under arrest.

And that’s when the madness began, because the professor immediately began crying “Discrimination!” and talking to reporters.

Which meant the cop was screwed.

Because in this day and age, there aren’t two sides to the story, there isn’t justice, there isn’t the benefit of the doubt, there’s just the guilty white cop.

In fact, in that phrase “guilty white cop,” the word “guilty” is redundant.

At least it seems to be in the mind of the president.

Because Barack Obama – attorney and former law-school professor – seems not to understand the legal theories of either slander or disorderly conduct.

Nor does he really seem that knowledgeable about stereotyping, discrimination and bigotry.

Because if there is one thing the evening news has gotten right about this incident, it is that it is a good illustration of stereotyping and discrimination.

But it might not be the kind they are thinking of.

Because this event – and a portion of the reaction to it – seem to be examples of stereotyping of and bigotry against law-enforcement officers. If the president says that cops are unduly hard on people of color, he needs to open his mind to the reality that some people of color are unduly hard on cops.

Because bigotry, contrary to what the activists say, is a two-way street.

If you take experiences with a few individuals from a group, and build a perception of that group based on those experiences, and end up with a generalized bad feeling about that group, that is – by definition – stereotyping, prejudice and bigotry. Here’s an example.

Say a black guy is rude to you, and a black guy mugs your brother, and you see on the news that a black woman stabbed her husband. Plus, a lot of people tell you that black people are dangerous.

Based on this, you decide that black people are bad, and you don’t like them.

That’s stereotyping, prejudice and bigotry.

Here’s another example.

Say a cop is rude to you, and your brother got pulled over by a cop for no good reason, and you see on the news that a cop has been arrested. Plus, a lot of people tell you that cops are cruel and unfair.

Based on this you decide that cops are bad, and you don’t like them.

That’s stereotyping, prejudice and bigotry.

And that’s pretty close to what the president showed when he said the police “acted stupidly.”

And all officers are endangered by that. What the president said will embolden some people who are already antagonistic to the police. By saying that people of color are stopped “for no reason,” he delegitimizes the police in the eyes of some people. He paints them as racists, as people to be resisted and disrespected.

And that is dangerous.

And dishonest.

Because police officers are overwhelmingly fair, polite and impartial. To infer that America’s law-enforcement officers are a bunch of closet racists, not worthy of the trust of non-whites, is to defame the reputation of what may be the most honorable and equitable group of people in our society.

It is worth remembering that the police are the good guys.

No matter what the president says.

A cop does his duty, without a shred of supportable suspicion, and he is defamed on national television by the president of the United States. Not just him, but his entire profession.

Because the president was wrong.

The officers involved did not act stupidly and the police are not racist, and repeating politically correct folklore with the effect of dividing people and diminishing respect for the police is not presidential.

It is not even moral.

In this matter, it is Barack Obama who “acted stupidly.”

I just love this new Obama post-racial era. I'm having trouble seeing the unicorns because all the rainbows are getting in the way.

What other way can he act? I’m sick of hearing that he’s smart. What proof? Hidden college records? Public statements demonstrating law knowledge of a moron? Inability to speak without a telepromopter?

You want brilliant African-Americans, try looking at Clarance Thomas.

Isn't it interesting that during his press conference Obama said, "I don't know the details of what happened, I wasn't there, but the police officer acted stupidly".

OK, let's see. Obama admitted he didn't know the details of what happened because he wasn't there, but said the police officer acted stupidly. How could Obama know the police officer acted stupidly if he doesn't know the details of what happened?

The truth is, IF the police officer had been black, he also would have arrested the black professor for disorderly conduct due to his actions. But my guess is the arrest wouldn't have happened at all because the professor would have immediately shown his identification to the black officer and wouldn't have yelled at him.

TRUTH = OBAMA AND ALL HIS FRIENDS ARE RACISTS!

Don’t worry Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor would rule favorably on behalf of the Police Officer!

IMHO, the most revealing thing about the issue with Gates is that he is so clearly another person and instance of a pattern that fits Obama's other "close friends".

Racist, hate filled, angry, people who detest traditional America and the free market and whose seething hatred is only just below the surface...and in some cases always out in the open. Frank Davis, Bill Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, Jeremiah Wright, Henry Louis Gates...and the list goes on and on.

There is a clear pattern here that the MSM not only knows, but refuses to report. And that is because most of them share this hatred.

Obama and all those pushing his radical agenda are abject marxist ideologues. Their "fundamental; change" is nothing more than a destruction of the American free market and fundamental republican principle.

Isn't it interesting that during his press conference Obama said, "I don't know the details of what happened, I wasn't there, but the police officer acted stupidly".

That's because according ot our president, it is a "fact" that afro americans and latina's are arrested in disproportionately higher numbers in this country.

Good post. Heres another possible scenario:

Lets say you are a gay Harvard Professor. You have been in China for a visit for what seems like ages because you have had to 'behave' and can't wait to get back home to have some 'fun'. A nicely built attractive man whom you like agrees to pick you up at the airport. Thinking quickly, you 'forget' where your housekeys are! You need help to get in the door to your house! So the strapping fellow helps you jimmy the door open... afterwhich.. opportunities abound! Offering a beer as reward for the help, why, thats only natural, how can he turn it down?

But just as your getting comfortable, and the conversation seems to be going your way... A POLICEMAN WALKS IN THE DOOR!!

Well darn if that didn't break up the mood!

Message to Harvard Professor: "Methinks thou dost protest too much."

"How could Obama know the police officer acted stupidly if he doesn't know the details of what happened?"

Well, there you go! All Obama needs to know is the race of the individuals involved. Black is right, white is wrong. The facts of the case don't matter.

I’ve never considered myself any kind of racist, but every time our president slaps that race card up aside of my head, racial animosity on my part grows stronger.

This makes that Secret Service officer that got relocated after complaining about the Obama family constantly whining about a certain “demographic” seem more credible.
