Crowd of 1,000+ turns out for Palin's Wasilla picnic
Texas for Sarah Palin ^ | Saturday, July 25, 2009 | Josh Painter

Dwarfing the numbers that traditionally show up for the governor's annual picnic in Wasilla, Alaska, more than a thousand people turned out Friday for Gov. Sarah Palin's last such event that she will host as governor in her hometown.

Some in the crowd came from as far away from Wasilla as Louisiana and Texas. Adrienne Ross, media director, New York State organizer and an executive board member of the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee was there, and she posted an after action report with lots of photos on her blog Motivation Truth here.

Alaskan Tammy Swofford was also there, and she blogged it (also with photos) here. another Alaskan, June, who blogs at Sunhusky's Alaska, blogged with photos here. Another Alaskan transplant, Ben Wargo, blogged it here.

As for the legacy media, KTUU's story and video is here. KTVA's story is here. The AP story is here. Raw AP video of the governor signing autographs, serving hot dogs and mingling with the crowd is here. A video of her speech to the crowed is here.

After the picnic, the governor tweeted:

"Great 3rd(& final) Governor's Picnic in hometown tonite;loved the focus: honoring military&Blue Star families;no politickin' just patriotism"
Looking ahead to the Saturday and Sunday picnics, Gov. Palin sent this message:
"Tomrrw host Anch Gov's Picnic; LtGov Parnell/I love these events- literally getting to serve you! Then Sunday Frbnks Picnic/Transition speech"

Did you see that idiot on O’Reilly last night. Huckabee let the Dem opperative get in a whole bunch of cheap shots at Sarah comparing her to some cheap TV series slut. Huckabee was worthless turning the no spin zone, into a hate-monger fest.

Anything less than 8,000 folks would be considered a small, private event for Palin! ; )

Huckabee was worthless...

1Kings 22:24 says "Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, "How did the Spirit of the LORD pass from me to speak to you?"(NASB)

Huckabee is the new Zedekiah that can't stand the fact that the Lord is elevating Sarah over him and putting her credibility on display for all to see while exposing him for the charlatan that he is.

Sarah will now get her book out, go on tour, give speeches and promote conservatie principles all over this country in the midst of the Obama administration disaster and gain great political capital in the process. Then she will support conservative candidates in 2010 and help them win, amassing much more political capital. She will then take all of that and make an awesome, stunning run for the Presidency in 2012.

You can expect no better from the Huck. Like Dems, Huck wishes she would just go away, like the Moon, or Mars or some where.

Ok, I'm going to go way out and a limb here (and pull on my fireman bunkers, too.), but wasn't Huck a former So. Baptist preacher? As I understand it, most Baptist churches have an issue with women in leadership (ministerial) positions. Could that be where some of his ire comes from?

I'm friends with a man who is a preacher with Baptist leanings and that po’ feller absolutely HATES her-but is hesitant to say exactly WHY he does. I can't help but wonder if maybe that is a reason. It doesn't make any sense, since she embodies all the values that we as Christian Americans hold dear. I'm beginning to think a lot of these folks would prefer she stay in the kitchen, so to speak, and not be an example or leader.

Anyone else thinking this? I am way off base?

Can’t wait to see how the anklebiters turn this into an ethics complaint somehow.

That doesn’t surprise me at all. Huckleberry is a POS that’s still a wannabe and loves to trash Sarah. He may be a RINO but he isn’t a conservative.

That has no bearing with Huckabee .... what he is, is a shallow dirtbag manipulator that will use anything to get what he wants.

The So. Baptist Convention has many women in roles of leadership. The seminaries have a high percentage of men/women mix.

But quite frankly, the huckster has always been more politician than preacher ... his past speaks for itself. It is called “self-first” It is who he is and who he has always been.

Anybody got a Youtube clip of this? If all of this is true it's time to get The Huckster fired from Fox News or stop watching them.

Thanks for clarifying that, Hiram.
But I'm thinking a lot of the SBC churches in rural areas missed the memo. They may not state it publicly, but they really don't like women preachers.

At least that's what I have heard from parishioners-it's probably not official policy, but rather a holdover from the "old days". I ain't SBC, so I shouldn't even be speculating on it, eh?
