The most bizarre moment of the Michael Jackson memorial a few weeks ago at the Staples Center in Los Angeles had to be the rambling speech delivered by Sheila Jackson Lee, the joke of a woman who happens to represent part of Houston in the United States Congress. (At the time, Roll Call reported that Jackson Lee “has a history of making cameo appearances at funerals” and that her staff used to “cull the obituaries” to “find funerals” for her to attend.) There she announced that she would introduce a resolution on the House floor listing every single one of Jackson’s charitable contributions and lauding him as a “world humanitarian” (his generosity to various teenage boys was presumably excluded). Fortunately, Speaker Nancy Pelosi recognized that even this would be too much for the American people to take and put the kibosh on Jackson Lee’s scheme

That Lee is a member of Congress is proof of reverse racism. I’m happy to explain this in more detail for those who don’t see it that way. We tolerate people like this in our high level elected offices because we have come to accept and look the other way when there is an issue of race. That, in and of itself, is perpetuating racism. There are so many great and qualified minorities in the country that are never heard, but we tolerate someone like Lee who is arrogant, vituperative, and ill-informed.

If I had a dime for every Congressional event she has attended and tried to take credit for, though in truth she did not lift a finger to bring about, I would be a wealthy wonk. Even more annoying: she speaks at length and NEVER knows when to shut up, even when she is putting her foot in it and displaying her ignorance for all to see.

Although the article does not say this (I read it in another article), he had spend sometime in Colorado. He had a job there but had left for home when 9/11 happened. And by the way, he is not at the WTC center in that photo. He was on another building. Notice it was cold, therefore, not September.

The Chronicle didn’t cover any of until the alternative City Paper in Houston started writing about it, and made the Chron look really bad. Then they started covering it, but you could tell they really, really didn’t want to. Occasionally they would run something that skewered her, but they are in bed with her (ouch, my eyes) and have pretty much pulled their punches.
Well, given her very high opinion of herself, I would say that we paid for it. The most dangerous place in the world is to between sheila and a tv camera. Her aids have spoken on how she is demanding as hell on everyone else, but cannot get anywhere on time. She will leave her limo idling for a long time, then berate the driver for making her late. She claimed that nasa put a man on mars. And recently she “hosted” a federal job fair here in Houston and promised that there 600,000 (federal) jobs on the way. However she is repeatedly reelected from her district. She is a legend in her own mind. And she is in Congress.
I predict that some day she and that other camera whore, Schumer, are going to collide and hurt each other trying to get in front of the same camera in order to pontificate.

A friend of mine used to be a bank manager in Houston. Back when she was still a teller, sjl came in to cash a check. She had never seen her before and asked her for her id. Well, sjl started on the “don’t you know who I am?????” She apparently made quite a scene, but my friend was firm and insisted on seeing her id.
