Foundation Run by Harvard’s Gates Is Revising Tax Return After Questions Raised
ProPublica ^ | July 27, 2009 | Robin Fields

A charity headed by star Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. is filing an amended 2007 report to the Internal Revenue Service because $11,000 it paid to foundation officers as compensation was mischaracterized as being for research grants.

Questions about Inkwell Foundation emerged over the weekend, part of a tsunami of attention Gates has received since July 16, when he was arrested at his home by a police officer responding to a report about a possible burglary in progress. The incident ignited a national debate over racial profiling, further magnified when President Obama jumped into it.

Gates volunteered that the foundation's second-largest grant, for $6,000, went to his fiancée, Angela DeLeon, who was also on Inkwell's board from 2005 to 2006.

Whoa! His fiancee? He claims to be married to a white woman. He was divorced and remarried a few years ago. Does he have a fiancee as well as a wife?

Most Angela DeLeons live in Texas. It's not a real common name around Massachusetts. Does she really exist?

And he's got his fiancee on the payroll. How cozy. What a freaking racket this race baiter has going... From the article:

Gates volunteered that the foundation's second-largest grant, for $6,000, went to his fiancée, Angela DeLeon, who was also on Inkwell's board from 2005 to 2006. Gates said he recused himself from the vote on DeLeon's grant, which was for a project translating documents from Spanish and Dutch about the slave trade to Mexico.

Cozy, no?

According to the filing, Angela is from Davis, California.

There is someone by her name listed as a student trainee at the Obesity and Metabolism Research Unit there.

Nice. She’s a student trainee at an obesity center yet he hires her to do ‘research’ for him.

July 16th is turning out to be a day he wished he had stayed in bed and not ventured out.

More on Angela. She’s 49 years old. Kind of old to be a student. Her birthday is in July. Happy Birthday! Your birthday present isn’t what you expected.

Well, I hope Mouthy keeps it up a little longer. Who knows what else we might discover about him.

By reclassifying the payments to Kendall and Wolf, administrative expenses will constitute almost 40 percent of Inkwell's 2007 spending instead of less than one percent.

Fraud? It's a whole lot easier soliciting funds for a charity that has 1% administarative overhead vs. 40%. Makes you wonder what the real numbers look like.

I used to wonder why the few liberals with jobs didn’t mind high taxes. It never occurrred to me that taxes are optional for them.
