Six months ago, embarking on the vice presidency, Joe Biden listed among his top priorities "restoring" the office to its proper constitutional role in the wake of the eight-year tenure of predecessor Dick Cheney.
It's early to attempt a reliable assessment of his achievement of that goal. But at the half-year mark, he has from all appearances made a good start, if only because nobody is suggesting, as often was the case with Mr. Cheney, that Mr. Biden is really running the country.
Nor has there has been talk of the vice president stealthily at work from an "undisclosed location," whispering conspiratorially into the ear of the president. That was a common image cooked up by Mr. Cheney's critics with, as we eventually found out, some validity.
Mr. Biden in the past has been criticized as a loose cannon who lacks self-discipline, not unnoticed at times by Mr. Obama. But after six months as vice president, Joe Biden seems to be making headway toward reestablishing the office as a constructive, not dominant, part of the nation's leadership team.

Same guy, with more accurate name.
Witcover-Wanker is clearly living in some parallel universe. He had better hope they don’t have 7-11s there or his image of Biden won’t hold up for long.

Biden Gets a Biographer
November 13, 2008
Vice presidents need biographers too, and veteran political columnist and author Jules Witcover has stepped in to fill the void.
Mr. Witcover recently inked a deal to write a biography of Vice president-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.. According to William Morris executive editor Henry Ferris, the book is likely to hit shelves by the fall of 2010.
Mr. Ferris also edited Barack Obamas first book, Dreams from My Father.
Did he get married ?

In his farewell column to Baltimore readers last week, veteran Sun political commentator Jules Witcover vented his spleen at the unnecessary and calamitous war in Iraq, not his employer of 24 years.
My principal regret in leaving this space in The Sun, he wrote, is that my readers in Baltimore will no longer read my views on what I consider the most critical crisis facing this country for the foreseeable future.
...looks like this (IMHO) 'ol b@st@rt (like 0) needs
precisely grounded glasses.
I’m not familiar with the guy but here is his tag at the bottom of the article. “Jules Witcover is a syndicated columnist and former longtime writer for The Baltimore Sun.”
I believe he was bounced around 2005 as a result of cutbacks. None the less, this is another commentary from him.

I am trying to get my mind around the concept of a grown man writing a biography about that worthless sack of poop, Biden.
Yes, confidence in Joe running anything is non-existent. And she writes it as if it's a good thing.
I hope they're paying him a lot of money. There can't be a harder job in the publishing world than writing an entire book where Joe Biden is portrayed as intelligent, thoughtful, influential, and competent.
It'd be like trying to sell tuna-flavored ice cream.
I realize your question is rhetorical -— My understanding is that the proper role of the Vice-president is to provide support/council/advice to the President and to serve in whatever role the President asks him to serve, which I believe is exactly what Vice-President Cheney did. Just because it was suggested that the Vice-President really ran the country does not mean that he did.
I thank God every day that Gore and Kerry were not elected.
They told me if I voted for John McCain we’d have a babbling idiot one heartbeat away from the presidency. I voted for John McCain and sure enough, they were right.
oh no...his name really isn’t Wanker
folks: stop editing the names! if his name was really wanker that would be funny
Haw Haw, I think its supposed to be his profession.
You know, like Dougie Howser MD.
