I think Obama has crossed an important threshold here. This was a defining moment of his Presidency. I haven't heard this commented anywhere yet... but I think it will become obvious that this is true. Obama crossed a line with public trust. Before the Gates arrest, Obama was somewhat on the high ground politically, still carrying his 'mandate' powerfully. After he made that inflammatory comment on the Gates arrest, not even the Greek Columns can resurrect that 'image' which has been shattered.
Obama dared to go right down to the sewer of politics with his self-assuring arrogance but this time he isn't coming out without a stench.
I posted a few months after his election that I believe his arrogance is his Achilles heel, and Rush has said several times that it will be something he says... rather than some issue. I think this was it. The Emperor has no clothes.
