People Like Palin
Charleston City Paper ^ | 2009-07-28 | Jack Hunter aka Southern Avenger

I’ve never been a big fan of Sarah Palin not because I ever thought she was exceptionally bad but because she never struck me as exceptional, period. By 2008, George W. Bush’s Republican Party had wrecked the Right and that Palin became famous by spending four months parroting the same, discredited agenda for John McCain didn’t exactly make her a credible conservative in my eyes, much less a new champion for the Right. Yet, I understood why grassroots conservatives’ desire for such a hero would lead them to Palin, whose beauty and backwoods charm, made her the perfect symbol for so many frustrated, middle-class Americans to rally around.

she doesn’t ‘have’ to be president. imagine her bringing out huge rallies around the country, much larger than the tea parties. That will drive obama and the libs crazy NOW, not years from now

Your advice was worthwhile.

His point that you don’t have to be a Sarah fan to understand her popularity is certainly a fair statement.

And his disgust with and mocking of the elite media was very entertaining and a sound assessment.

The establishment loathes anyone who dares step outside what they define as “mainstream,” whether it be Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, Michele Bachmann, Duncan Hunter, or Mark Sanford. Some are just easier to ignore (or shut up) than others.

Well, they deprecate anyone with a southern accent AND conservative views.

The high point in the history of the paleo"conservative" movement was Neville Chamberlain selling out the Sudetenland at Munich to Hitler. Paul, the current leader of the rump faction that calls itself paleo"conservative," would like to repeat Chamberlain's sellout in our time. He need not bother trying because we are not going to allow the conservative movement to degenerate into paleoanything.

We may as well prepare for the inevitable death rattles of the paleos as they scrawl obscenities and falsehoods with their grease pencils on the outhouse walls of American politics attacking any and all actual conservatives. Like the loonybin left whose surrender monkey foreign policy they so passionately admire, the paleos will particularly attack someone like Sarah who will keep conservative priorities in order while Paulie stuffs the federal budget with pork for Galveston, runs from every enemy facing our nation, is generally a two-faced character with weird policy obsessions who poses for holy pictures as though he were conservative while often doing the precise opposite of what he claims.

The elimination of the Paulistinians won't be pretty but it will be necessary and it will be accomplished.

Palin was literally PUSHED out of the mainstream. McCain picked her because her views were very like his. But she had the job of pointing out how radical Obama is, and so the media shot the messenger.

She can have no more gaffs like seeing Russia from Alaska.

I hate to bring this up, but you do know you can see Russia from Alaska? Little Diomede Island, Alaska, is a couple of miles from Big Diomede Island, Russia. Russia is clearly visible from Alaska on a clear day.

For the truth on the Russia/Alaska comment, watch Media Malpractice by John Ziegler. He shows a clip of what Governor Palin actually said and then what the media portrayed it as. You’ll be appalled at what this country’s media has sunk to.

She never said that.

It was Tina Fey, impersonating her, on Saturday Night Live.

Paul is not looney on all counts. When he talks about the fed and its friends, he tends to be right on mark.

She never said that.

Actually she did say that...because it's true. You can see see Russia from land in Alaska (Little Diomede Island).

Tina Fey's spoof on it was "I can see Russia from house".
