AP Reports 'More Than 200 Protesters' at Obama Bristol, Va. Town Hall

Following on the hundreds who protested Barack Obama this morning in Raleigh, the Associated Press reports several hundred protesters were gathered in Bristol, Virginia as of 3:16 p.m. for the scheduled 4 p.m. Obama town hall meeting at a Kroger grocery store:

A crowd of more than 200 protesters opposed to President Obama's health care overhaul have gathered outside a Kroger supermarket in Bristol, Va., awaiting the president's arrival for a town hall meeting.

Some held signs reading, "Obamacare is political malpractice" and "Keep your hands off my health care."

The Wednesday protest drew people from the tri-state region of Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina.

The Roanoake Times reports a pro-Obama rally was organized by the leftist labor union SEIU:

A few blocks from the Kroger a group of supports shared their concerns with the current health care system and reasons why they are urging for an overhaul of the nation’s health care system.

Sponsored by the Service Employees International Union, the rally sought to emphasize the hardship health care premiums have placed on small businesses. It also highlighted the problems Virginians face in paying for prescription drugs.

The Times also reported on the anti-Obama protesters:

Protesters were also waiting for Obama’s arrival.

“We’ll be here until the president sees us,” said Katie Hughes, 18 of Kingsport, Tenn. “It makes me mad. I mean this could mean our grandparents won’t be taken care of.”

The largest group of protesters gathered outside the Kroger parking lot.

Rho Griffin and her husband Blake drove down from Roanoke to tell the president to keep his hands off their health care.

Great job tri-state tea partiers!

They bring in the SEIU rent a pickets here in Indianapolis to show support for Baraqqi healthcare. I’m guessing instead of going to their regular janitor jobs, they head for the square downtown. Unfortunately the local media report this as legitimate support for the Baraqqis.

Caught a snippit of his speech on CSPIN a moment ago. In mentioning the opposition he’d seen he said “they’ve been listening to certain radio shows and watching certain cable shows”.

Then proceeded to lie again about how you can keep your plan and doctor.

People are reading for themselves what’s in the bill and looking at the horrors in socialized countries, and seeing what’s ahead of them, and are screaming NO!!!

Like just across the Canadian border, and even closer, the People’s Republic of Massachusetts.

But he blames radio and cable shows that we ain’t buyin’ the snake oil.

He ain’t seen NOTHIN’ yet.

“I think that just about doubles the population of Bristol...”

OK - I’m a native of SW Virginia and I used to work just outside of Bristol. While we ain’t New York, the area is pretty thickly settled. I’m really not surprised by the reaction to Obama and a lot of his agenda. While they have gone Democrat around here at times, especially in the coalfields, most of the folks are pretty traditional. A lot of the far left stuff just ain’t gonna play well here - especially Gun control, not to mention abortion and gay rights. I have been gone from the area for many years, but my wife and I still have family there and we return as often as possible. I haven’t noticed that SW Va. suddenly turned into Massachusetts while I was away. I also believe the Dems are going to fail miserably trying to get most of these “traditionalist” Democrats to go along with their programs.-—JM

I’m watching the Kroger-fest right now. He made reference to the protesters outside. He said that they have been misled by the radio programs and websites that they go to. He makes everything sound so good. An older lady asked him if it was true that the elderly would be effectivley put out to pasture. After rambling on and on he reassured her that everything would be okay, not to worry (my words, not his). If everything in this bill was as simple and innocent as he represents it here, it would be great. My problem with this whole thing is the fact that they are attempting to ram it through so fast without the American people even knowing what is really in there. Something this important should be given at least several months scrutiny with the whole contents of the bill being published so that anyone that wants to see it will be able to.
The whole thing is over now. It lasted about an hour. He took very few questions. I do know that a Kroger employee that does not support this plan and was interviewed on the local radio did not get to ask his question. The local news (WCYB) so far has not shown any protesters. Word is that there may be something on youtube.

“Obama plans on giving illegal aliens the IRA and savings of granny and grandad plus their social security and Medicare.”

No shiite. He has to take the money & assets and run. Make the families sue to recover what they can. Dialing for deathcare, smiling all the while.

Give illegals a free pass on health care. Overcount them in the census. Make them union clerks and have them vote by signing their ‘X’ right here, sonny boy.

no media coverage about protesters and yet if Bush had 5 protesters the media go wild

well done to them and is there any way we could have a list of where the president goes so to warn freepers that bozo or his handlers are coming to town.

Just changed channels one of our other local channels(WJHL) is showing the protesters and our Rep. Dr. Phil Roe. There were a lot of protesters. I admire their faithfulness. It has come several heavy downpours of rain while they have been out there. Rep. Roe is definitely not in favor of this bill. He said that something needs to be done, but, the government does not need to be in control. WJHL also referred to the 10th amendment. Way to go WHJL!!!

why is the GOP not talking about about illegals jumping in line for health care and before the elderly?

The GOP should be pushing this to the elderly especially in states like mine in FL .

Even my mother in law who is a MA Dem and always voted Dem says she is not happy with bozo along with her Dem family

Now believe me that is saying something if she isn't happy with a Dem.

Get this message out to the elderly as much as we can.

Most of us have elderly parents, family and friends so please tell them.

I'm from the UK and I have told as many as I can , even yesterday I struck up conversations with those in the waiting room informing them

Hoping for sitereps.

Good job. Get the word out. The elderly who voted for him have gotten “punked.” He can get the vote of the left, minorities and illegals so he really does not care that much about the elderly.

In the past - most politcians were scared of senior voters but not any more. The word needs to get out during the August recess coming up. Seniors need to pack in the Town Hall meetings and say no.

The Labour govt in the UK did the same thing to pensioners.

The older lady asking questions about seniors being put out to pasture will probably end up getting the same treatment as his white grandmother.

Whatever really happened to granny? Nice job by the seniors and baby boomers who voted for this nightmare.
