Ladies First To The Vineyard (MObama - +also Paterson Gatesgate comments)

MICHELLE Obama and the girls will do Martha's Vineyard a week earlier than Himself. They'll stay at Caroline Kennedy's.

*snip*

In line with last week's story of the black Harvard professor's arrest, the Gov. recalled when he was much younger and in the house all alone. He heard a robber enter the front door. Scared to death, he jumped out a window.

Arrested, the cops wouldn't let him go until he proved, by a photo he knew was inside, that it was indeed his home. "But," says the governor now, "I wasn't angry.

I was just so grateful I had police protection from whoever might still be in that house."

Caroline Kennedy's New Pad

Posted by ExtraTV Staff on December 29, 2008

Senate hopeful Caroline Kennedy's knockout Martha's Vineyard estate puts even the most decadent Hollywood spreads to shame!

According to the NY Post, the estate -- sprawling across 366 acres and worth at least $50 million -- recently underwent renovations.

Caroline's mother, the late Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, purchased the property in the town of Aquinnah (formerly Gay Head) for $1.1 million in 1978.

The land, originally 31 lots, was recently divided into seven plots -- five for Caroline and her three children, and two for people outside of the Camelot clan -- in case Kennedy ever decides to sell.

The estate also includes a 2,000-ft driveway and 4,620 feet of beachfront!

Ugh, what a hideous, bloated pile of sticks! And here we’re supposed to believe the left has such great taste. This is the architectural equivalent of Michelle’s Black Widow dress.

Lord have mercy!

With all their money and all their supposed taste, they just plop a huge, poorly-proportioned caricature of the New England saltbox any old how on that nice piece of property.

All they had to do was subscribe to Fine Homebuilding magazine to see how it's supposed to be done.

We built a passive solar house on a $40,000 budget and it was beautiful and tailored to the land. If we can do it, why can't they? Idiots.

See the mound? That’s where all the family secrets are buried.

THAT little mound? That wouldn't even begin to conceal ONE family member's secrets . . .

Must be where they interred their morals and self-respect.

It looks like the Waco compound (before it caught fire).

After a summer infestation of the Obama crowd, it'll make Cabrini Green look salvageable

Glad I am not the only one to see how hideous this thing is. Started in the middle and just kept adding more and more and more and more. Think they have a fetus like that Winchester Gun Heiress who kept building to her home and never stopped?

I know ... I'm surprised. Hardly what I'd expect from a Kennedy, especially since Jackie was so known for her taste. It's not landscaped I guess, but still unattractive. This is more what I'd expect for a seaside retreat.

Jackie's Summer Days at Red Gate Farm

After Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' death, a maid who had cleaned her home in Martha's Vineyard for several years, told her story to the "National Enquirer" and also provided shots of the interiors. The article did provide some insights as to what Jackie's life was like during summers at Red Gate Farm.

Red Gate Farm in 1994

The main house was 3100 sq. feet; "John's guesthouse" in foreground.

After the renovation.... One report said the house tripled in size and the guest house was torn down.

More pics of the interior at the link .. supposedly from the maid.

Has a lower profile, which I definitely like, but I'm not sure I like all the multiple conflicting rooflines.

I like contemporary stuff better -- these beach houses were featured in recent issues of Fine Homebuilding (I'm a charter subscriber):

Of course, I also like the old-fashioned traditional vernacular homes, but in that case it needs to be integrated and solid - not rambling.

What I don't like is the in-between stuff -- not truly traditional but not out-and-out contemporary. I could live happily in an authentic Southern hip-roof (real) plantation house from the 1840s, or a frankly contemporary home, but not the gimcrack stuff that passes for spec houses these days.

Boy, these Dems sure know how to “share the wealth.” Guess the Kennedys don’t have to listen to Obama’s plans. Especially when they are gonna stay at Caroline’s plantation.
