From a local Catholic deacon (Email)

I rarely send out this sort of email. But this health plan scares me spitless. Please consider whether you are sure you want the government to decide what kind of treatment you should have. Losing my mother to an HMO’s Cost Effective neglect makes me very sure I don’t want the government involved in health care. Giving vouchers to people to purchase health care is okay. Mandating the kind of health care everyone receives, too frightening to contemplate. Please read and consider this and ACT NOW AND CONTINUALLY UNTIL WASHINGTON GETS THE MESSAGE.

Let me some [sic] up the health plan for you: YOU won’t have an option—you will be part of a government health plan. Appointees who are not subject to public election will decide what medical treatments are covered and for whom. You will pay for this bill but have no part in the decisions being made. If your conscience doesn’t allow you to decide that the elderly aren’t worth paying for, that’s too bad because it’s not your choice. If you don’t want to pay for abortion as health care, that will no longer be your choice. Please read the information on the websites below:

See: www.stoptheabortionmandate.com and http://www.defendyourhealthcare.us/ for information, including the entire bill that is being considered and voted on. Decide for yourself if this is what you want passed without any serious consideration. If you are as frightened as I am, get involved. The only way to stop this is through YOU contacting Washington.

... the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development ...

Hubris, from horizon to horizon, and absolutely unbounded arrogance.

Maybe so.

I take some comfort in knowing that lawyers and tax collectors were universally despised in the Holy Land when Christ walked on this earth. LOL.

Ronald Reagan's 1961 speech against "Socialized Medicine" can be found here

Another wonderful site with great information is the American Association of Physicians & Surgeons, whose opposition to socialized medicine has been ongoing for many years. Visit it here

From there, there are links to other sites and to upcoming events, including this one, pertaining to this weekend.

The political process should be guided by "faith and reason."

Shocking, yes, I know.

If health care was a “right”, then God would have been wrong to inflict illness onto the world. And it certainly makes a mockery of “the WAGES of sin is death” which indicates God would be unjust to give us anything less than our wages unless He gave us grace.

No, good health as well as good health care is God’s blessing. Everything else is what we deserve.

I do find a certain irony in the fact that the Catholic bishops so bent on their social communistic ideology are now supporting killing off old people and abortion. This just goes to show you we all have our priorities.

BTW-I get tired of people saying this health care proposal should be for “everyone”. If people would stop and think for one minute, not allowing access to health care for the elderly is NOT equal access. They are only changing who can access the system.

Excellent. Was there any reason the deacon didn’t want his name to be used? (I mean, did he ask that this be passed on anonymously?) He makes good points — I’d love to quote him.

I’m raising a charitable family. But we want to give, we don’t want things taken from us.

Exactly!

And the barely concealed liberal agendas behind the petitions seriously tick me off also.
