Sen. Kennedy among Medal of Freedom recipients (BARF alert!)
The Hill ^ | 30 July 09 | Walter Alarkon

Posted on 07/30/2009 11:30:39 AM PDT by SkyPilot

President Obama will award Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) next month with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country's highest civilian honor.

In announcing the award for Kennedy, a nine-term senator who is fighting brain cancer, the White House called him "one of the greatest lawmakers — and leaders — of our time."

The award comes as Democrats in Congress and Obama are pushing for healthcare reform legislation, which has long been Kennedy's top issue, the White House noted in its release.

"He has called health care reform the 'cause of his life,' and has championed nearly every health care bill enacted by Congress over the course of the last five decades," the White House said.

The medals will be awarded to Kennedy and 15 others during a White House ceremony Aug. 12, when the Senate is expected to away for its August recess. Kennedy's office has yet to say whether he will attend.

Kennedy, in a statement, said he is "profoundly grateful" to receive the honor, first given to non-World War II veterans by his brother, President John F. Kennedy.

"My life has been committed to the ideal of public service which President Kennedy wanted the Medal of Freedom to represent," Kennedy said. "To receive it from another president who prizes that same ideal of service and inspires so many to serve is a great privilege that moves me deeply."

He should have spent a decade (at least) in prison.

Outrageous - even for Democrats.

This “medal of freedom” represents freedom from answering for his crime. What Obama is doing for Kennedy is kinda like how I felt when Hollywood gave awards to the movie Broke Back Mountain...yeah, whatever! Only those giving and those receiving think it’s truly something that matters.

How ironic that Kennedy gets the Medal of Freedom when through most of his political life, the Senator has spent enslaving people to choking government bureaucracy.

How ORWELLIAN!

"Medal of Freedom?' for a Soviet Collaborator?

From Human Events, Dec. 9 2003:

One of the documents, a KGB report to bosses in the Soviet Communist Party Central Committee, revealed that "In 1978, American Sen. Edward Kennedy requested the assistance of the KGB to establish a relationship"

Kennedy offered to speak out against President Carter on Afghanistan. Shortly thereafter he made public speeches opposing President Carter on this issue

In May 1983, the KGB again reported to their bosses ... Kennedy had instructed Tunney {Dem Senator} ... to carry a message to Yuri Andropov, the General Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party, expressing Kennedy's concern about the anti-Soviet activities of President Ronald Reagan.

Kennedy asked for a meeting with Andropov for the purpose of "arming himself with the Soviet leader's explanations of arms control policy so he can use them later for more convincing speeches in the U.S." He also offered to help get Soviet views on the major U.S. networks and suggested inviting "Elton Rule, ABC chairman of the board, or observers Walter Cronkite or Barbara Walters to Moscow."

Ted Kennedy was a 'collaborationist' - Herbert Romerstein

Did someone rename the medal the "Fifth Column of Freedom" award?

President Obama will award Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) next month with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country's highest civilian honor.

For what ? The murder of a young white girl who would have, if she'd survived, been an elderly useless eater today?
We know how Oboma hates people like that.

The American people should be outraged. If Kennedy gets this medal, this medal no longer means anything. It's being used as a cheap political prop, and I find Obomas partisan use of it no less than repulsive.

Reached by phone at his Boston recording studio, Kennedy told this reporter that this new award will be displayed next to his Life Saving Merit Badge. Image hosting by Photobucket

Yeah, yeah...I know it's in bad taste. But then, so is most of the Kennedy clan.

To those who deserve the Medal of Freedom, be proud of the honor you bestow upon it by your character and your actions.

To Mr. Kennedy, your character and your actions have made the bit of metal and ribbon you’ll be getting just that and nothing more. I hope you’ve turned to Jesus, for His blood was shed for all and can cleanse all. There’s still time to do one important thing before you leave—reject abortion loudly and to your last breath. Make this time count.

When the truth becomes known of how his policies have enslaved generations of blacks, this award will have to be reconsidered.

The only thing worse than the Obama Zombie Koolaid Cult is the Kennedy Koolaid Cult. I’m still at a loss even after watching the adoring HBO documentary on Drive into the Drink Kennedy what exactly this man’s contribution is to the country. He’s the one who created the HMOs Democrats love to hate—but blame on Nixon. Beyond that, I’m at a loss.
