As much as I would like this document to be legit, the content would seem to suggest otherwise. Another Freeper pointed out that Kenya did not become a republic until December 1964. Do a search on “Dominion of Kenya” and you will find yourself wondering why the document bears the phrase “Republic of Kenya”.

According to worldflags101.com, “The country changed its name from the Dominion of Kenya to the Republic of Kenya in 1964.”

It’s clearly stated here, as well: http://www.statemaster.com/encyclopedia/President-of-Kenya

In the absence of any further information I’m inclined to call the document bogus, but I’d truly love to be wrong. Fwiw.

Where can we find another document from this time to compare? If bogus, then it will be easy to prove.

Dang, this Republic thing is going to ruin all the fun, unless someone turns up another circa Dec 1963-Dec 1964 Kenyan document calling it the Republic of Kenya.

“The country changed its name from the Dominion of Kenya to the Republic of Kenya in 1964.”

Interesting. According to this

Kenya became independent on 12 December 1963, with Kenyatta as premier. Zanzibar had become independent two days earlier; but the ‘coastal strip’ had been ceded by the sultan of Zanzibar to Kenya in October. The country voluntarily became a one-party state in November 1964, and in December 1964 became a republic within the Commonwealth, with Kenyatta as president.

-----

So if the coastal strip [Coastal Provence?] was given to Kenya in October and Kenya became independent in December 1963, could it have considered itself a Republic before the name was offically changed?

You are overlooking Madaraka Day - June 1, 1963 and Jamuhuri (Republic) Day - December 12, 1963
