Christopher Caldwell’s “Reflections on the Revolution in Europe: Immigration, Islam, and the West” is a hot book presented under a cool, scholarly title. To observe that Mr. Caldwell’s rhetoric is “hot” is not to say that it is aggrieved or unruly. On the contrary, Mr. Caldwell, a senior editor at The Weekly Standard and a columnist for The Financial Times, compiles his arguments patiently, twig by twig, and mostly with lucidity and intellectual grace and even wit.

But they are arguments one is not used to hearing put so baldly, at least from the West’s leading political journalists. Primary among them are these: Through decades of mass immigration to Europe’s hospitable cities and because of a strong disinclination to assimilate, Muslims are changing the face of Europe, perhaps decisively. These Muslim immigrants are not so much enhancing European culture as they are supplanting it. The products of an adversarial culture, these immigrants and their religion, Islam, are “patiently conquering Europe’s cities, street by street.”

Yes, I know of Horowitz’s book and have seen summaries, but haven’t read it. From what I’ve seen, Horowitz seems to believe that the Left thinks it can eventually make Islam (and all religion) go away. What I suspect is something even more sinister: they want to use Islam as

1. A means to subvert the West
2. An active, permanent force for control and repressions after their ambitions are realized

The U.S. needs to limit all future immigration to those of the Judeo-Christian faith or else we’ll be inundated with cultures defined by their religious identity at odds with our common culture and this in turn will add more momentum to multi-culturalism fraying the fabric that binds our nation..........Alien faiths, cultures, rituals and practices have a way of infecting the body politic by its toxic ideas as well.

Thanks for the warning. I won't do anything hastily as with new software, you're never sure exactly what it is going to to, potential conflicts, how safe it is.

I had Ad-Aware and ran it now and then but was having troubles with something, and I gave my ISP control over my computer and the tech took it off. It's not as if I couldn't have done it myself, they think everybody is dumb I guess. Later they tried to sell me theirs, I installed and looked at it but never ran it. Plus they wanted another so much a month for it. So I told them to forget it, PC Fine Tune or something. CCleaner does a pretty decent job, it freed up tons of space on my C drive, have only run it twice but no problems that I'm aware of afterwards. So I'll just kick it around and not do anything hasty. I really need to be phasing things over to my imac but I'm not used to it so there it sits. I can do everything I need to do on my PC so fast because I'm so habituated to all my tasks now even if it has its quirks. Uploads are a breeze, things like that I'll have to learn all over, slow me down to a crawl.

That defi will come as a severe shock to Christian Galilaeans and to any number of Maronite and Nestorian Christians. Believing it would make it nearly impossible to understand how Christians in India came to practice their liturgy in Syriac. My sister got married in this language 25 years ago, in a church Christianized 17 centuries previously by St. Thomas of India, who followed the Roman trade routes to take up a mission in the Greek trading entrepots of the Malabar Coast.

No, that won't be a shock to any Maronite or Nestorian. Why do you think they have been persecuted by the majority of Jews and Arabs for the past 2000 years? The number of Maronites is very small compared to the number of semetic Muslims. And the Nestorians are very small. And Christianity never took root in India no matter what language the litergy is in.

Christianity did originate among a Semitic people, but it never took deep roots among Semites. Most Jews never converted and never will. And when Islam came along, a form of religion conforming more to Semitic cultural values, it easily supplanted Christianity. Christianity is a minority religion among Semitic peoples. Among them, Islam and Judaism predominate.
