Thanks for the correction. My mom lived in Athens and was 12 years old (I was figuring the year from her birth date.) Anyway, she remembers it vividly. Her dad had the family lie low until the gunfire was over.

My grandfather(WWI) was born in McMinn county, my GGGfather, left Knoxville to join the 3rd Cavalry (Lillards)in Monroe County.

When I was a young boy roaming the streets of Knoxville barefoot, I had no idea my heritage.

This is the first time I have heard this battle. Thanks for posting it.
