Speaking for myself, and not in any official capacity with the Coast Guard — The lack of combat medals does NOT diminish the quality of heroism of Coast Guardsmen. Their principal enemy does not surrender, keeps attacking - and doesn’t know they are there. There are several Coast Guard-specific medals which indicate heroism in lifesaving operations.
