The Obama administration plans to place federal employees in the largest immigration detention facilities in the country to monitor detainee treatment.

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration plans to place federal employees in the largest immigration detention facilities in the country to monitor detainee treatment.

This oversight role is currently handled by private contractors. But under the new plan, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials would be placed at the largest jails to directly supervise how the detention centers are managed, according to people briefed on the government's plan.

The government has been criticized for its treatment of immigration detainees, and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has made detention policies a top priority for her department.

ICE, which is part of Homeland Security, intends to hire a medical expert to review the health care protocols for the detention centers and give an independent review of medical complaints, according to the people briefed on the plan. They spoke only on condition of anonymity ahead of an announcement expected Thursday.

Shortly after Napolitano became secretary, she created a new advisory position to focus on detention issues and...

As part of its plan, the department will create yet another new position to be filled by Schriro: director of the Office of Detention Policy and Planning.

Oh brother, is this an Immigrant Detention Czar? This administration would be an absolute joke if they weren't so dangerous.

Let’s see now, mentions of Obama, Homeland Security and Napolitano in the first few paragraphs?

Guaranteed to be a FUBAR situation!

This is because the amnesty decree is going to come after the (pro-illegal immigrant) health care decree. The democrats want that voting block. The baby boomers are on their way out. The health care decree will sure up their vote first.

None of what Oboma does is for the American people. He's too Stalinist for that. It all has to do with absolute power.

Here's why. From DHS last February:

"Also on Monday, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano selected Esther Olavarria to become deputy assistant secretary for policy. Olavarria spent nearly a decade as chief counsel to Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., where she focused on immigration, border security and refugee issues and was involved in the failed effort to push through comprehensive immigration reform during President George W. Bush's second term...Olavarria left Kennedy's staff in 2007 to work as an adviser to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and later became director of immigration policy at the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank. Earlier in her career she was an attorney for a number of immigrant advocacy groups based in Miami."

Another item in the continuing series of replacing competent and affordable private contractors, who won the business based on bid laws.

Now we have an even larger federal bureaucracy, increasing the size of the federal unions, and being completely unaccountable to anyone. A political favor writ large.

We are seeing true Chicago-style politics expanding to Washington.

Bush and McCain are for amnesty as well. They are the ones who held border security hostage to "comprehensive immigration reform." If we have an amnesty, this country is finished. Everything else, whether it is Obamacare or cap and trade, will just be rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

I think another reason they are changing the “oversight” is that there will be more chances to demagogue on how “bad” it is to keep these people locked up.
