A 17-year-old boy who was killed during what police described as an attempted home invasion Wednesday in South Knoxville had a criminal record but no history of violent offenses, court records show.....Wooten had faced charges five times since 2007, including arrests for possessing a counterfeit substance on school grounds, disorderly conduct, inciting a riot, vandalism, criminal trespassing and resisting a police stop, according to court records....When he [the homeowner] was opening the door, two suspects tried to push their way in, DeBusk said. He pulled the gun from his pocket and fired twice, and one of the suspects fired at least once at him....

This would have turned out MUCH DIFFERENTLY if this homeowner had not been prepared. The punks were armed.
The article has a sympathetic bias toward the deceased "boy", IMHO.

Too bad, so sad.
Don't commit the stupid crime and this won't happen.

Good example why a gun in your nightstand just isn’t enough.

Many moons ago , when I was 17 , if I’d had committed as many crimes as this kid I wouldn’t have been walking the streets and going to school that’s for sure . Lock up time , somewhere .

Don't worry, the accompanying newspaper story will undoubtedly include a picture of him in cap & gown from his elementary school graduation a half-dozen years ago.
His relatives will predictably be shown crying hysterically and telling how he was "...Turning his life around to become a rap artist to help his newborn son... or similar untruthful nonsense. Mark my words.

Other than that, he was a good kid, turning his life around, honor student, committed community organizer, a bright shining star tragically snuffed out in his prime ... (and not a minute too soon.)

50-1 he was black , hence the bias. Yes, at least fifty to one. Another reason to reckon that is the fact they didn't include a pic of him.

In fairness, this could be another Arsenio Wooten. But with a name like that, chances are low.

I remember a couple instances when I was young where some yute would get in trouble over something.
And they knew it. Their parents knew it. The communities knew it.
Kid would show up at the Army or Navy recruiting center and be long gone before the trial ever happened.
