Frankly, I'd like to see Health Insurance moved out of the employer based model. Why not just open it up and let folks buy their own health care from whatever companies are allowed to operate in their states? There could be a way set up to help, by means of tax credits for those who, because of pre-existing conditions, could not get health insurance, except at an exorbitantly large cost. The coverage would still be from a private insurer, but they could get help for the cost. Same thing for those families who make too much for Medicaid, but not enough to purchase full coverage for their families, on their own.

There should be a way for folks to be able to get private health insurance, at decent rates, but NOT connected to an employer, so that it is portable. And it should also allow for folks to get high deductible plans, without Prescription Drug coverage, if they prefer that, along with Health Savings Accounts, from which they can pay for their routine physicals, tests, and medicines. If they are not paying $10K a year on health insurance, but instead, maybe $6K or $7K, they could put the balance in the Savings Account and use that money for those day to day out of pocket expenses.

And how about clinics opening in Wal-Mart or any other place that want to discount service but can’t because of government mandates? The doctor who wanted a monthly fee to see his patients has been denied to open his clinic. As an employer of a small business, my insurance rates are ridiculous and go up everytime an employee hits age 40 or heaven forbid, 50. I hate it, but I do not hate it enough to give my health care over to the likes of Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel who will determine I have no social benefit to society (i.e., vote Democrat) so therefore I should be denied care for whatever ails me. If we shop for cars, food, clothing and try to find the best deals, why can’t we shop for health care??? Are we just too stupid to do anything for ourselves anymore???
