Hitler was ingenious in naming the Nazi Party to appeal to disparate groups.

It stands for National German Socialist Workers Party.

Nationalist and German were considered to be right-wing terms.

Socialist and Workers were considered to be left-wing terms.

Thus he was able to attract people from both extremes of the political spectrum, left and right.

The term 'Projection' comes to mind on the reason.
