They very well might be. The Army breaks down its personnel needs by Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), and if there are shortages in on MOS, they will recruit into that MOS more. I suspect much of the incoming personnel pool is going into the combat MOSs.

Watching Glenn Beck on Friday a person from England gave the fact that the British health care employment was the third largest in the world. The first was the Chinese Army and second was the Indian Railroad. Right now employment Homeland Security in this country in increasing. I get to see the job listings. As of Rush';s show the only increasing employer in American is the United States government. We are Nationalizing America at an extreme rate.
