Sarah Palin on Immigration (Oct. 31, 008) Interview w/ GRETA VAN SUSTEREN
Fox News.com ^ | Saturday, November 01, 2008 | Sarah Palin (interview)

Posted on 08/10/2009 3:22:02 PM PDT by Clyde5445

GOV. SARAH PALIN: We've got to secure the borders, and we can't be considering this broad range of amnesty that some would want. We've got to secure the borders and prove to the American people that the federal government is serious about this, and it's got to be a comprehensive approach to dealing with the immigration challenge that we have -- securing the borders, working with our border governors and mayors. They're there on the front lines, understanding what some of the solutions can be, if only they have an administration who will work with them

The complete section:
VAN SUSTEREN: Governor, you know, before economics hit us so heavily in the last month or so as a topic, the thing that grabbed people's attention was illegal immigration. And that was the big problem for a long time. What's your thought on that? I mean, what's -- how do can we fix the illegal immigration issue in this country?

They're there on the front lines, understanding what some of the solutions can be, if only they have an administration who will work with them.

And McCain has a great comprehensive approach that he wants to take to this. It includes dealing humanely, too, with the 12 million or 13 million illegal immigrants that we have today also. But until we secure the borders, I don't think Americans are even going to believe that we're serious about fixing some of the problems that are just inherent with this challenge of so many illegal immigrants here.

Now, unfortunately, with McCain's supporting proposal for this comprehensive approach to fixing problems there, there were about five poison pill amendments provided in the comprehensive approach that McCain wanted. And Barack Obama voted for those poison pills, killed the whole initiative, and we still have the problem that we have today.

Illegal immigration, though, is a perfect example of how these parties had better start working together, the D's and the R's, get it together if they're serious about addressing the problem of illegal immigration. It's not a Republican or a Democrat problem. It's all of America's issue.

Note that she made the required comment about McCain, but IMO, somewhat passively.

Thank you for posting this. Sarah has already stated BEFORE she was chosen as McCain’s running mate that she was for LEGAL immigration. The ONLY reason why RomneyBots yesterday were going after her was because of the politico poll that showed her with a HUGE lead over Romney in a mock 2012 poll. Don’t tell me that wasn’t a coincidence, I don’t believe in coincidence

I would be shocked if Palin came out supporting any of the various amnesty proposals that were on the table last year. Based on this interview, she seems to lean against amnesty. I’m sure we will hear from her about this issue in time. The issue of immigration has taken a backseat to the economy and healthcare at the moment, even though they are all related.

And I will add this to the mix.

Palin Message on Driver’s Licenses for Illegal Immigrants: “If u dont have legal right to walk down AKn street, why should u have right to drive same street?”

Thanks SolidWood.

I remember reading before she became a VP candidate that she was against amnesty for illegals, but FOR legal immigration. I would have to find the article, someone posted it yesterday but it was all mixed in with the RomneyBots postings it will be kinda hard to find. Immigration has definitely taken a backseat, but after the DeathCare and Cap and tax debate is over with immigration will be the forefront of the debate

Yep, I remember when she posted that. She was referencing a bill, I forgot the name of it, that was up for debate in Alaska. I think that statement right there says a lot about her opinion on illegal immigration

The loon who posted the attack on Sarah Palin last night on this subject is a Ron Paul, Pat Buchanan supporter as he states on his home page.

The third Party loons hate Palin because she supports the
war on IslamOfascists.

the Third Party loons are anti war.

I think Palin recognizes this to be a complex issue...but she’s spoken out against illegals having driver’s licenses and I think it’s fair to say we’ll be able to really see a bold separation from Obama’s stance next year.

She won’t be tethered by McCain then either.

Obama and Rahm want a guest worker program pushed next year. We’ll know where everyone stands on Amnesty next year. Prior positions on Bush’s Guest Worker Programs were just political posturing which don’t count. Bush’s plan was never going to pass. The stand you take next year is for real.

Her very next words were this:

"And McCain has a great comprehensive approach that he wants to take to this. It includes dealing humanely, too, with the 12 million or 13 million illegal immigrants that we have today also. But until we secure the borders, I don't think Americans are even going to believe that we're serious about fixing some of the problems that are just inherent with this challenge of so many illegal immigrants here".

Univision: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?

Sarah Palin: No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provide

No matter if you post the truth, the RINOs, Romneyites, and lib trolls will swear that Sarah Palin sits left of John Kerry on immigration.

GOP platform on amnesty:
We oppose amnesty. The rule of law suffers if government policies encourage or reward illegal activity. The American people's rejection of en masse legalizations is especially appropriate given the federal government's past failures to enforce the law.
Sarah Palin on amnesty:
We've got to secure the borders, and we can't be considering this broad range of amnesty that some would want. We've got to secure the borders and prove to the American people that the federal government is serious about this,...
Sarah Palin actually read the GOP platform. As she told Fred Barnes during the campaign, she wishes more in the GOP would read it.

I know where she stands on amnesty. No amnesty.

Perhaps you’re not getting responses because folks are tired of pointing out the obvious. Frankly, and I don’t think I’ve ever said this before, this thread is a perfect example, IMO, of people who are so fanatic that they are unwilling to accept reality. I think they call that drinking the kool-aid. If you are willing to accept Palin’s position on “not total amnesty” and her support for a “path to citizenship”, then YOU too are for amnesty and I suspect, would vote for her, just like McCain, regardless.

And in case you’re wondering, I stand opposed to the issue and ANYONE who supports it. I voted for Duncan Hunter.
