The posters went up last week in Union Station. On each of the large displays, a thought bubble rises up from a picture of a beautiful 8-year-old: "President Obama's daughters get healthy school lunches. Why don't I?" A Washington nonprofit that advocates nutrition-policy reform paid $20,000 to get its message across and...Metro gave it a go -- but the White House did not...the White House asked the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine to take down the ads, which features a vegetarian who attends a Miami-Dade County public school that...offers no vegetarian or vegan lunch options.
The Physicians Committee has declined to take down the posters.
PCRM President Neal Barnard...says he received a call regarding the posters Aug. 4 from Associate Counsel Karen Dunn and Deputy Associate Counsel Ian Bassin.
Barnard says, "Tthey called and said: Please take those down, you can't mention the kids and so forth. . . . They felt that mentioning the president's children was off-limits. They said [they're] not going to allow the use of their daughters as leverage."
The fact that the poster mentions the president's children has been the main point of contention, though neither the children's names nor their images appear....
..."they wanted me to remove [the posters] voluntarily, but made it clear that they viewed this as something that could lead to legal action if I wasn't responsive. But that was an implication. If this story comes out as Obama versus Us, I don't want that story," says Barnard...
PCRM is advocating vegan and vegetarian lunch options at public schools nationwide. Barnard hopes that when Congress weighs in on the Child Nutrition Act...the presence of these options will be made mandatory...

Can you imagine the outrage if a conservative group put up a poster showing Obama children?
Easy for me...when faced with such a choice between competing Libs, I always tell myself "a shame both sides can't lose."
I see nothing wrong with it. They don’t show the kids or mention their names or ridicule them in any way. They are making a point. Nothing different then noting that Obama’s kids get private schooling when Obama’s are against vouchers.
Meanwhile, private citizen Sarah Palin's family is pretty much fair game for any insults people want to toss their way.
SUCH a double standard.
Screw that.
Ask Sarah Palin.
Oh for crying out loud. This is like the lib do gooders in my office. Bring your own dang lunch then. No problem.
Just because YOU have oddball parents...
“Hard to choose sides in this one.”
The fact that the poster mentions the president’s children has been the main point of contention, though neither the children’s names nor their images appear
Based on this statement it is not hard at all.
Obama wants YOUR children to have a specific Government issued health care system that his children and the children of all politicians will be exempted from. The ad seems not to use his children’s pictures or names so the general tone is to show that OUR children are appearently different then THEIR children in THEIR minds.I see no problems in this ad.
Typical thug behavior.
President Obama's daughters go to expensive private schools. Why don't I?President Obama gets to drive in expensive limousines. Why don't I?
President Obama's daughters go to Europe and Africa on vacation. Why don't I?
Answer: Because you don't make enough money!
The Obama daughters are not pictured in the poster. They are not identified by name in the poster. Let's grab the popcorn and enjoy this scuffle.
Exactly right. Neither of the girls are shown or are their names mentioned. The White House reaction is absurd in the extreme.
I am not in favor of any president’s (or any politician’s, for that matter) minor children being used for political purposes.
Except that the president doesn’t have anything to do with this, Congress does. I seriously doubt he is going to veto the reauthorization of the school lunch program. What I enjoy about this is there are two parties involved, both of which advocate big government and government micro-management of something, in this case, what children eat for lunch at school. No mention of parental responsibility for feeding their own children what those children want to eat. If the kid wants a vegan diet, she can bring a tofu sandwich on Ezekiel bread to school in a brown bag. I say a plague on both their houses.
Absolutely --- this is gonna be fun!!!!!
How be you? Nice quiet summer so far on the 'cane front!!!!
The poster doesn’t show Obama children, or quote them. It shows a little girl from Florida.
Not really, kids should be left out of it. Period.
Sorry, I misread it, still, if the Obama children were even referenced in a conservative ad, all hell would break loose.
Okay -
How about
“Our Dear Leader’s children ....”
When the kids turn 18 (and they will) and decide to use the bully pulpit provided by their Daddy to elaborate on how politically brilliant they are (likely, IMHO, given the nature of teenagers)....then the gloves can come off. Until then, let the kids be kids.
