Police Show Of Force At The Cardin Town Hall Meeting
Necessary or Overkill?
Senator Ben Cardin had to shout his way through a town hall meeting last night, where angry constituents booed and jeered as he tried to explain health care reform working its way through Congress. Cardin was booed repeatedly and the crowd had to be asked to calm down to allow him to continue. Security was unusually heavy. After Cardin began speaking, university security officers marched through the audience and positioned themselves at the edge of the stage in a show of force. The atmosphere inside was more than matched by the scene outside, as hundreds were turned away after the early arrivals claimed all 500 seats inside. Activists by the hundreds lined both sides of the road, and all sides of the issue, honking horns, brandishing signs and shouting slogans for the benefit of the TV cameras and anyone who might listen.
Are officials handling these town hall meetings appropriately? Are you pleased that Senator Cardin was willing to hold a town hall? Do you think the protesters are preventing him from getting his message out or addressing concerns? Was the show of force by security necessary at this event?
The thesis of the discussion is that the show of force by the cops in the meeting itself (as opposed to their use for crowd control) was a political gimmick by Cardin, and out of line for a community forum.
The object was to suppress free speech. It worked. Cardin is a wanna-be tyrant.
November, 2010. National clean out your congressional desk month.
The Sacramento Tea Party (April 15th) at the State Capitol
had cops/snipers on the top of the Capitol Building looking down upon senior citizens, Vietnam Veterans, pregnant women with small children, women with babies in their arms, and other citizens of CA. Cameras were being pointed at us continually. We the People seem to be irrelevant to these political dictators! My father, a veteran of WWII (CBI) and a veteran of the Korean War must be rolling in his grave at this outrage against our country. It’s a national disgrace for our country and for our freedom.
Veterans that served to protect and defend this nation must be livid and outraged beyond words other than profanity. The political sewer RATs in DC and elsewhere aren’t worthy of licking the bottoms of our soldiers boots. IMO, they’re that reprehensible and unworthy of being called Americans.
Incumbent senators up for re-election in 2010:
Democratic incumbents -- 2.3.1 Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas 2.3.2 Barbara Boxer of California 2.3.3 Michael Bennet of Colorado 2.3.4 Christopher Dodd of Connecticut 2.3.5 Daniel Inouye of Hawaii 2.3.6 Evan Bayh of Indiana 2.3.7 Barbara Mikulski of Maryland 2.3.8 Harry Reid of Nevada 2.3.9 Kirsten Gillibrand of New York 2.3.10 Chuck Schumer of New York 2.3.11 Byron Dorgan of North Dakota 2.3.12 Ron Wyden of Oregon 2.3.13 Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania 2.3.14 Patrick Leahy of Vermont 2.3.15 Patty Murray of Washington 2.3.16 Russ Feingold of Wisconsin
2.4 Republican incumbents -- 2.4.1 Richard Shelby of Alabama 2.4.2 Lisa Murkowski of Alaska 2.4.3 John McCain of Arizona 2.4.4 Johnny Isakson of Georgia 2.4.5 Mike Crapo of Idaho 2.4.6 Chuck Grassley of Iowa 2.4.7 David Vitter of Louisiana 2.4.8 Richard Burr of North Carolina 2.4.9 Tom Coburn of Oklahoma 2.4.10 Jim DeMint of South Carolina 2.4.11 John Thune of South Dakota 2.4.12 Bob Bennett of Utah
The following seats are considered safe in most current predictions: Democratic: Indiana, Maryland, New York, Oregon, Vermont and Washington. Republican: Alabama, Alaska, Idaho and Utah.
I believe many of those seats considered safe may not be so safe if this bill passes.
That would make a great poster!
Yeah, but Babs is.

Post of the month. You read my mind and made my day. Thank you.
I live in Maryland. Cardin is a no good communist and an anti-Catholic bigot to boot.
Babs the Baby Killer (aka Barf Mikulski) is not in good health these days. There is an outside chance she won’t run again. Bob Ehrlich intimated on his radio show that he has got his eye out on her seat. Also, there are rumors that Kendel Ehrlich, Bob’s wife, may run for something in 2010 (she’s denied that). They live in the same legislative district that I do, and “Hanoi John” Astle (the local ‘Rat state senator, who flew helicopters in Vietnam but who is imbued with the politics of Ho Chi Minh) is vulnerable.
A minor misstatement, outside the hall there were between 1000-1500 "Activists". Of them ,less than 100 were for the ObamaCare plan. I stood on their side of the street with my "against ObamaCare" sign and our folks on the far side of the street consistently outshouted the Pro-ObamaCare side down, all day long.
Collectively, their side has only moderate energy. They all knew our side had the momentum.
News reports that imply that there was some kind of balance in the numbers are WRONG. Even in Blue State, Maryland, the libs were handed their hat in Tows on, MD yesterday and they all know it.
There was one group (6-8) of union folks (a large number of them big beefy guys) who got into a verbal match with our side about 100 feet from the door to the meeting hall and up a slight hill. Before long they were surrounded by our side and were verbally chased off the hill. They them retreated down to the street to where the largest lib contingent was located. If you see the video it's the guys in the yellow union shirts.
Our side was constantly engaging in dialog with them and every time a discussion would start up there would be several of our folks who would join in and verbally chew them a new one.
There side had a fair number of union folks there (as a percentage of their group). Whether they were bussed in or paid to attend, I don't know.
Another interesting note, most of the signs on their side were produced, printed signs. Most on our side were home made.
Libs got their ass kicked (figuratively) in Towson, MD yesterday!!!
