A commercially available smoking mixture called Spice, containing a powerful synthetic cannabinoid, should be banned in Britain, authorities say.

The product comes in slick packages and is touted as an all-natural, legal high containing Baybean and vanilla. But it also contains includes a man-made cannabinoid four or five times as potent as THC, the main psychoactive substance in marijuana, The Times of London reported Wednesday....

It probably causes schitophrenia/bipolar disorder like cannibas does.
______

I should have known my bipolar and 76 year old mother was a flippin’ stoner.

For the record, she smoked reefer once, with me, while dad was on a business trip. In 1978.

Since you seem to be up on the studies indicating this, what percentage of users of marijuana develop these 2 entirely different disorders? How much do they have to smoke? Over what period of time? What other substances did these patients use? Any alcohol, cocaine, LSD, anything else?

Cross thread stalking is considered to be in poor taste around here.

If you have a problem with steve, why not freepmail him yourself and be a man about it, instead of the little girl approach you are currently utilizing.

I thought that the Keele University Medical School study conclusively disproved the Harvard (and previous) study(ies). Or course you are entitled to your opinion, despite facts to the contrary. As I'm not allodoxaphobic your opinion doesn't bother me and on a more serious note I really doubt that inhaling smoke from burning pretty much anything can be good for you long term.

I'm not surprised that LA has their own spelling for things considering the cognitive dissonance that goes on there.

I thought marxist idiots were also considered in poor taste around here.
Freepmail him?
In case you haven’t been paying attention, he posts and runs.
He’s not interested in defending the trash he puts up.
If you want to defend him, feel free.

“I think the onus should be on the company to prove that it is safe before marketing it.”

Interesting.

Should that apply to all products, like lumber, swimming pools, and guns?

Or just products meant to be ingested, like hamburgers, cigarettes, and whiskey?

What does safe mean anyway?

My suggestion would be to get your own life, and not worry about folks who post stuff you don’t like. You can easily ignore him.

When you don’t like what’s on the tube, do you continue to watch? Likely, you change the channel.

Posting links to all his threads while we’re trying to have a rational conversation about marijuana (bwahahahahaha) is really a buzz kill.

If the Harvard study is correct and pot use causes bi-polar disease, that does not imply that all people who are bi-polar were potheads. So give your ma a break. It might not be your fault for smoking pot with her.

The two disorders are not entirely different. They were thought to be, but recent studies have blurred the lines between the two. The same areas of the brain are affected. And depending on who you read, each is sometimes considered a specialized subset of the other.

And I haven’t read the harvard study in it’s entirety. I don’t have the answers to your other questions.

Before you swing entirely to the other pole over this, someone is claiming a Keele study exists that disproves the Harvard one. Haven’t checked into it.

I’m currently reading “The Machine Crusade” and yes nothing compares to the original. Frank Herbert was a genius and Dune is so complicated and profound at times it never grows old to me. I find myself re-reading them every couple of years. Herbert and Tolkien remain 2 of my favorite authors.

The whole Dune epic started out great but quickly went downhill. In the hands of Herbert fils, it turned completely into pulp.

"Should that apply to all products, like lumber, swimming pools, and guns? Or just products meant to be ingested, like hamburgers, cigarettes, and whiskey?" "

No. Lumber pools, guns and hamburgers aren't normally considered harmful, whereas cannibis has been deemed such by society. And society has struck it's own balance with cigarettes and whiskey.

My point, is that since cannabis is already a controlled substance, a synthetic version of one of it's key components, should bear that same stigma until proven otherwise. A synthetic hamburger (think soy, not GM foods) should fall under the same food regulations as hamburger. A synthetic alcohol under the liquor regulations, and synthetic pot under pot regs, etc.

"What does safe mean anyway?"

I used the word "safe" primarily with thoughts of the harvard study indicating cannabis causes brain damage. And with thought of the initial congressional debates where cannibis was banned, because the Mexicans using it were noticeably "crazy". LOL.

But should the synthetic be proven to have no lasting damaging effects on the brain or otherwise, and not to cause "craziness". Then society still needs to determine whether mind altering substances other than alcohol and nicotine should be allowed.

You’re missing out, after Children of Dune, the story skips forward about 3,000 years to God Emperor of Dune, where Paul’s son Leto II has mostly metamorphosed into a sandworm and has been ruling the known universe for millenia. It’s at this point that Duncan Idaho becomes one of the central figures of the story.

Sorry, I did flip through a friend’s copy of God-Emperor of Dune on a slow duty-section afternoon during my Navy years. It failed to pump my ‘nads.

The older one gets and the more one learns, the less attracted one is to breathless stories of superhuman individuals. Thats always been an obsession throughout human history.

Our Founding Fathers were the first sensible people to recognize, once-and-for-all, that such people don’t exist and designed a government with that fact in mind.
