Maybe they forgot no one reads newspapers anymore?
It's cheaper to run readers' letters, no author to pay, just publishing costs and solicit some ads.
Maybe the New York Times will start a "Letter To The NYTimes" publication ala Penthouse Forum:
"Jason Blair, you'll never believe what happened to me..."
