KHARTOUM, Sudan -- An appeals court commuted the death sentences for four men convicted of killing an American diplomat and his Sudanese driver after the driver's family decided to pardon the murderers, a news agency reported Thursday.
Sudanese law stipulates that if a victim's family chooses to pardon the murderer, the person cannot be sentenced to death and the prison term cannot exceed 10 years. The case will be referred back to the initial court for a new sentence, said the Sudan Media Center.

And what did the DIPLOMAT'S family have to say about this matter?
This is Sudan, not some civilized place. Someone make a firm offer of $50 a head and they’ll be delivered to the door of the US Embassy tomorrow.
The diplomat's family are "kafir" (infidels), so their opinions do not count.
The driver's family probably received the traditional "blood money" payment (and/or perhaps, because they are poor and unconnected politically, were threatened with death) as "encouragement" for them to pardon the driver's killers.
The Sudanese government will probably rub America's face in it by handing down a ridiculously short sentence.
If he was an Israeli, Mosaad would spare no effort at finding these four and bringing them to painful and permanent justice.
Since they are Americans and Obama is President, not only will nothing be done the killers, eventually the State Department will blame the diplomat for provoking his own death.
Start the timer and let's see how long it takes.
