Women prefer to work for male bosses... because they're 'better managers and less prone to moods'

Most women prefer to work for male bosses because they are less prone to mood swings, research revealed yesterday.

Two thirds of female employees said they like having a man in charge in the office. Those questioned also said male bosses are more authoritative, straight-talking and better at making decisions than their female counterparts.

Battle of the sexes: Two thirds of women say they prefer working for a male boss because they are better decision-makers than their female counterparts But the study did find the fairer sex are better at delegation and more likely to dish out praise.

The statistics come ten days after Harriet Harman declared men in power can't be trusted. Labour's deputy leader said: 'I don't agree with all-male leaderships. 'Men cannot be left to run things on their own. I think it's a thoroughly bad thing to have a men-only leadership.'

The results of the survey also revealed four out of ten women who have female bosses believe they could do a better job than their superior.

A spokesman for www.OnePoll.com, which conducted the research, said: 'The results make interesting reading as there were pros and cons to both sexes.'

This isn’t the first time I have seen a poll or study with precisely this result. In fact I cant recall ever seeing a contrary result.

The study is exactly right. Unfortunately, (even in show business) there is no “sisterhood”

Damn right. “Now honey, bring me a cuppa coffee and stop over your lunch hour and pick up my wife’s dry cleaning” ;-)

And it maybe safe to also say and even more so, that males prefer not to work for female bosses.

I can’t understand why women can’t get along with women more than men can’t get along with men. I am a guy, I really don’t care what the gender of my boss is.

I think there are a lot of factors here.

I once had a 50 something male boss who was like a damn drill sargent. You felt like you could be fired at anytime for any little mistake.

and then...

I had a really nice 40 something female boss. She treated me really well, I would say like a son. and she had a son my age. I think that helped her give me the benefit of the doubt a couple times. So I really think there is a difference between women who have children and women who do not.

most women in their 40s, 50s and 60s are cool to be around

I would agree with the poll. Though my favorite boss was a female, my least favorites were also female. Too much ‘sexual politics’ going on. And too much back stabbing.

I have worked for both. Male bosses are less likely to say “You know why” when you really don’t.

LOL! My thoughts exactly.

Having a male for a boss meant you got accurate information and straight answers.

Having a female boss meant spending 15 minutes watching her dance around the mulberry bush while she tried to formulate a politicized answer that you had to double check with someone else to make sure it was accurate so she didn't wind up blaming you for her mistake.

Of course, this was all before the business world was infected with feminism and metrosexuality.

Lucky you, but probably not so lucky for the rest of the group. Mommies do play favorites, and they do play mind games to get the kids to do what is wanted.

It's nice if you get the role of the favored child, but when you don't, you end up getting the cr*p that Mommy doesn't want to give to the golden child.

One thing good managers do is to NOT fall into the parental models. Teamwork and team leadership are not the same as as the family and parent models.

I can’t understand why women can’t get along with women more than men can’t get along with men.

I can't either, but maybe it has something to do with what they expect of each other. They expect women to be more sensitive and are easily disappointed if the woman boss doesn't turn out to be their best advocate.

Just a thought. The fact remains that in these studies the usual complaint is that women are too emotional.

There is your answer, you are not a woman. I will tell you from personal experience, I much prefer working with men, as superiors or inferiors, than women. In a job where I was crewleader to an all-male crew of 13, there was no jealousy, competition, no one tried to garner attention to the detriment of the work project. When I worked a job with no men whatsoever in the office, female boss, it was a nightmare.

I have noticed over the years, a good many of the women I've had as boss seem to feel the need to assert this time and time again, sort of the way 0bama is constantly saying, "I'm the president." It comes across as an inferiority complex, no one was ever challenging that boss' authority or ability to demand at the time, but still that attitude, "I'm in charge, you must do what I say."

I agree but if I used those words I'd end up in HR.

Then, I think your comment about being treated like a son doesn't mean the same to you as it does to me. It usually implies special treatment. If the person gives the same good treatment to all, it isn't special; the person is just good. It sounds like you had a good person as a manager who treated you well, and probably treated you as a competent adult friend, rather than as a son.

I think my scars about parental mode management are showing.
