Even Investigative-Birther Influx Can't Stem Aloha State's Tourism Decline
Reason ^ | 8/17/09 | Tim Cavanaugh

It's shaping up to be a grim 50th birthday for America's youngest (and undoubtedly fakest) state, as the local tourism industry gets a nice Hawaiian punch courtesy of the global recession. According to the Wall Street Journal:

As much as a third of Hawaii's economy is driven by tourism, say state finance experts, and a recent state report showed that from January to June, spending from visitors who arrived by air dropped 15% to $4.97 billion from a year earlier.

Even sunbathers this year easily claimed spots on the normally overcrowded Waikiki Beach, a distressing sign for an economy more dependent on tourism than any other state in the U.S.

To put things into perspective, the state's unemployment rate, even at a 31-year high, is only 7.4 percent -- lower than the national average and better than the structural unemployment rate for many tourism-dependent economies around the world. (Oh wait: Damn you, Monaco, for screwing up the average.) The story also conflates government budget concerns with actual economic performance. (Gov. Linda Lingle is aiming to cut 1,000 state jobs to close an $800 million deficit.) Finally, there's this attempt by to pathologize the healthy dynamics of the bazaar:

Two years ago, there seemed no end to Hawaii tourism, said Marcus Oshiro, finance chairman of the Hawaii House of Representatives. "And now we're begging and offering free meals and free lessons trying to get them to come here."

They could tour all the hospitals he was born in and sell replicas of all his social security cards, along with replicas of all his different passports and citizenship papers.

the Hawaiian thing starte in the 50s with Arthur Godfrey's promoting it.

Guess that has finally run its course.

I went to Hawaii on R & R back in the 60s.

It was a tourist trap. Didn't enjoy it very much at all.

Every member of the Supreme Court, every member of congress, every member of the Joint Chiefs, most members of the DOD, CIA, FBI, Secret Service and state run media, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, PBS, NPR, MSNBC, Fox and print news, knows that Barack Hussein Obama does NOT meet Article II – Section I constitutional requirements for the office he holds. By his own biography, there is NO way he can pass the test. The hard evidence is so far beyond overwhelming, it is ridiculous.

(snip)
But not ONE member of America’s most powerful people will dare confront Obama and his anti-American cabal on the subject. The Constitution does NOT stand.

(snip)
Half of the people you expect to stop this insanity are quiet co-conspirators in the silent coup. The other half is paralyzed by fear, motivated only by political self-preservation.

(Snip)
Americans keep asking what they can do because they see that none of their leaders are doing anything to stop the demise of their beloved country. It’s the right question, because those leaders are NOT going to stop this thing.

(Snip)
WHO WILL SAVE FREEDOM?
A brave few… This is how it was in the beginning, how it has always been and how it will be.

(Snip)
DR. ORLY TAITZ, Phil Berg and Gary Kreep, ALL OF WHOM HAVE MADE DEFENDING THE CONSTITUTION AND THE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE A PERSONAL AMBITION, IN THE ABSENCE OF ANY CONSTITUTION LEADERSHIP.

A PRECIOUS FEW, BUT THEY EXIST… and the walls are indeed closing in on Obama and his evil cabal. IF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FAIL TO GET BEHIND THESE BRAVE FEW WHO ARE SEEKING PEACEFUL REDRESS, ALL THE PEACEFUL OPTIONS WILL EVAPORATE AS IF THEY NEVER EXISTED. WE WILL RETURN TO A PRE-1776 AMERICA OVERNIGHT..

Do YOU fear Obama?

A precious few, indeed. Lets get behind those few brave patriots who are out there in the trenches every day working to prove Obama’s inelgibility:

Dr. Orly is the ONLY one out there in the trenches EVERY day hitting Obama on multiple fronts and trying to bring him down. It is reported that she is more than $8,000 in debt from using her own funds for expenses in her flights across the U.S for interviews, speeches, serving papers and meeting with officials!

Today’s radio interview in Israel with Dr. Orly.
Discusses bc, Obama not elgible due to being British citizen, death threats, Obots tampering with her car:

‘The Obama File’ is back!
It is back and archieved here:

‘The Obama File’ is a treasure trove of Obama history. Every thing you’d want to know about the usuper
from his African ancestry to the present is here for us internet warriors to use for reference.

Even ‘Latest News’ is back up- so apparently Beckwith intends to keep adding to the file. GREAT NEWS!!

FRiends, we have used ‘The Obama File’ and neglected its author, Beckwith.
He is a 70 year old retired gentleman who is living on Social Security. He put up a PayPal which collected under $250.00 in the over 2 1/2 years that he struggled to maintain it. This is disgraceful.
Let’s show our appreciation for this great American patriot by sending a generous donation to his PayPal!

Maybe they should build a prison with individual cells with bullet-proof glass and move the Gitmo scumbags there, cage the beasts for the animals that they are and charge admission.

That will help with tourism.

Why would anyone want to sun bathe in Hawaii when the Earth’s temperature is rising so rapidly that it will soon be a red-hot cinder incapable of supporting any form of life?

I know that a business group that I’m associated with canceled its 2009 convention due to the poor Obama induced business climate.

That group was a 1,000 person group.

The best bet for Hawaii would be to subsidize “long term stay” “tourist class” cruise ships from the mainland, in concert with hotel room deals, figuring that there would be a threshold at which lots of people would come, and their buying of other things would boost the economy.

They might make a deal for tourists to stay for an entire month, and stay in good, if not luxury accommodations, then upgrade the “regular” tourists at the good hotels to the luxury hotels. Since many of the hotels are ordinarily overpriced, they can offer many bargains.

In that the typical cruise ship carries about 3500-4000 passengers, the local economy would get quite a boost. The cruises would not have the usual excess found on cruise ships, saving them a lot on expenses. Even meals might be extra, instead of part of the deal.

The long stay in Hawaii would tend to bring people who had more money to spend, as it is longer than a typical week stay, which would encourage them to take the short flights to visit the other islands, as well as hit far more of the tourist sites than usual.

What is the business about Barry and Michelle having hundreds of SS numbers and hundreds of residences and hundreds of mortgages, etc.? I read that somewhere last year, and haven’t heard anything since.
