WASHINGTON (AFP) US labor unions and environmental groups on Tuesday announced plans for a nationwide campaign to boost support for legislation to promote "clean energy" and battle climate change.
The 'Made In America' Jobs Tour will open Thursday in Ohio -- a critical political battleground in US presidential elections -- and visit 50 sites in 22 US states, including other major toss-ups, the coalition said in a statement.
Leaders of the United Steelworkers, Service Employees International Union, Utility Workers Union of America were to join heads of major US environmental groups on a conference call Wednesday to formally launch the campaign.
The tour "is aimed at highlighting the benefits to American workers and businesses of transitioning to a clean energy economy that will create millions of jobs," according to a statement announcing the move.
The US Senate is poised to consider climate change legislation when it returns from a month-long August break in early September, three months before December global climate change talks in Denmark's capital Copenhagen.
The US House of Representatives passed legislation in June that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17 percent from 2005 levels by 2020, and 83 percent by 2050, create "green" jobs and wean the US economy from oil imports.

The 'Made In America' Jobs Tour LOL. Who is going to make anything in America if energy is too expensive?

the United Mine Workers, Teamsters, UAW, etc- support this faux issue that will drive manufacturing to India and China, and put them out of work?
It sounds like our unions finally have become the marxist fronts of the former USSR

Somebody really ought to ask Spain about 'green' jobs. Even the Eurocrats in Brussels, in their
own study, found that for every 'green' job created, between 2.2 and 3.4 'non-green' jobs were lost (variance due to assumptions made by the different analyses).
Worse yet, 61% of the 'green' jobs created were...guess what? For bureaucrats to administer sundry goobermint programmes.
Yep. 'Green' jobs. That's the answer. Uh-huh.

Anyone who thinks these laws are going to enhance employment at steel mills is too dumb to breathe unattended anyway. These guys are cutting their own throats and blaming Bush for the blood.

Make them show you the science. I'd say, make them show you the numbers! I would think the conservative approach (drilling, more refineries, nuclear, etc.) would be much better at generating jobs for steelworkers and utility workers, not to mention all construction workers and others. For gov't workers (which may make up a huge part of the named unions -- I believe Harvard's office staff is represented by the UAW(!!!!))-- maybe not so much . . .

Well, once again a “stereotype” proves to be true....Apparently these union drones are so stupid and so subordinate to their union bosses and political puppeteers that they will make every effort to destroy their own jobs. Pitiful and pathetic.

the United Mine Workers, Teamsters, UAW, etc- support this faux issue that will drive manufacturing to India and China, and put them out of work? 100% agreement ... I would also think other unions would be against this climate change scam and in favor of drilling/refining/mining our own: - Pipefitters (they should be in favor of building oil rigs and power plants and piplelines) - Electrical Workers (they should be in favor of working on a grid to carry more power) - Steelworkers (they should want to bring steel manufacturing back to the US) - Teamsters (should want cheaper deisel/gas .. i.e. oil drilled here) - All of the above because the if the American economy is humming along, then they are making money and providing a more secure future for their progeny.

I've never believed that Union Members, at least the majority of them were very bright.
Many years ago I worked for a company which had a Union workforce. I got to know many of the members and the one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb was the economic ignorance of many Union members. That's not everyone mind you but many were so economically illiterate that they would vote against their own long term interests. They (again not all) were very susceptible to being hoodwinked by their leaders. Independent thinking was not a strong suit for the most part.
Any Union members of an industrial labor union, i.e. machinist, IBEW, etc. who would favtor this climate bill are as dumb as a box of rocks.
