Texas' identity as a solid "red" state is unlikely to change any time soon.
According to a new Gallup Poll, 43 percent of Lone Star State residents identify as "conservatives" while just 16 percent identify as "liberals." Thirty-six percent of respondents described themselves as "moderates," in the poll of more than 9,100 Texans.
The most conservative state is Alabama, where 49 percent of residents are solidly conservative, followed by Mississippi, Utah and Louisiana. The most liberal state is Massachusetts where 29 percent of people identify as liberal, followed by Vermont, Oregon and Washington. In Washington D.C., 37 percent of respondents identified as liberal.
The poll's margin of error is between 3 points and 7 points.
Let's say you relocated the People's Republic of Austin to Berkeley. Or even (God forbid) brought em here, to our beloved blue college town of Charlottesville.
Would there be a single liberal left in Texas?

It’s more like 75% if you take out the inner cities, much of Austin, and the Rio Grande Valley. Even the Rio Grande is conservative, but they are fooled by government promises and vote for Democrats.

43% is more than enough to get a real state sovereignty movement rolling in Texas. I plan to actively encourage Governor Perry to stick to his stated position regarding 10th Amendment protections if this crap sandwich health bill passes.
Bet it’s more than that. Even some of liberals here are conservative.
Man, I love this state.
Please secede Texas, please. Americans need a sanctuary to escape liberal fascism. Where else can we go? Australia?
Don't let polls like this confuse you... Don't forget Texas has major metropolitan areas in Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio all of which aren't necessarily conservative.
There are many democrats that will answer a question tht they are conservative and are in many ways.
Today the Texas State House is 76 - 74 GOP. The GOP has lost seats in the last few elections and after redistricting may well loose the House. The state Senate is safely GOP but that may close under redistricting.
Statewide elective offices have been held by the GOP for a few years now. But as I said the conservative adjective isn't synonymous with how one will vote.
I wouldn’t get to excited about these numbers, many blacks identify themselves as conservatives, but vote democratic.
Many whites will do likewise.
If you want to get rid of liberals in your state, it only requires two policies:
End entitlements - the freeloading sheep leave for greener pastures.
Make it impossible for government at any level to control people’s lives - the leftist elitists will be gone before you can say “know better”.

Yes yes, you can play with numbers all you want but the only two States that had NO counties go Democrat in recent elections are Utah and Nebraska.
Texas liberals seem to be reproducing faster than conservatives as well. If would help if we at least sent the illegal ones home.

Yep I agree the illegals should be taken to the Rio Grande and told to wade back home. Many in the hispanic group would probably classify themselves as conservative in Texas.
We don't need to secede and break up our beloved country to accomplish what we want. A formal assertion of our 10th Amendment rights to Washington will stop all of the over-reach, over taxation, and left-wing mandates from the feds.
We've got a much better chance of actually achieving that politically, as well. There's a great deal of support for the idea across the state and in the legislature.
Secession should only be a last resort, if all else fails.
